have u ck for codes,had a 99 monte canister in drives rear quarter panel was bad evap cat & emission code,,ck it out,advance auto or autozone scans for free,,codes that is,,

the check engine light comes on when a sensor is giving problem, when you clear the codes and the light came back did you check to see which code came back? Because right there would be the problem.

it sound like you could have two problems one is you might have a bad head gasket two u could have a bunch of air in you radiator so i would start the with the radiator cap off and see what happens if its air this should take care of the problem
