Do you have an electronic brake pressure pump for brake assist that you may want to make sure works properly. When turning ignition on, you should hear the motor run, also when you press the brake pedal.
List of possible reasons: Restricted flow of the filter inside the Transmission, defective shift solenoid also inside. Defective transmission control module. Have them all checked
i had a similar problem last summer my engine was revving very high then would shut off as to protect itself or air problem, but i found that i had a bad valve cover gasket after replacing it the problem corrected itself. the high revving was caused by too much air being drawn into the manifold with bad gasket
easy fix. just remember to tighten new gasket every other bolt opposite sides as you tighten not all at one end first
good luck
Without a scanner, it's hard to do. You can check power and ground at the CC module. But that's about it. Pull the CC plug and clean it. Most times it is the CC module that dies.
If you have a center brake light in the trunk lid. This is how the water gets in the well. I silicone all them. Sometimes the rear spoiler will let water in also. I also drill a hole in the bottom to drain the water. Sometimes there are plastic plugs you can pop out under the spare tire.
Well, you have a gasket leak around the trunk lid is my opinion. Check the rubber seal around the lid for tears or missing pieces. You can get a new gasket at any parts store. And a wet vac will take care of the water in the trunk. Good luck
Not saying this will help but mine was stuck and I squirted some WD40 on the working parts up inside and kept working with it and finally it worked. After I got it working I shot a little heavier oil on it. It's ok now.
when you replaced the battery the CPU program may have become corrupted
try using a scan tool to reset the ECM as all your described problems indicate a problem program
Depends on what went pop. What color was the smoke? If it was white and the engine was hot you may be lucky and just have blown a radiator hose. If the smoke was black or blue that would be more in line with an oil leak which may still not be the end of your car. You need to have someone look under the hook and determine where the pop sound came from.
Do you know what fuel pressure regulator is ? These like to leak when they get older !
The cartridge type fuel pressure regulator (1) is a diaphragm-operated relief valve (6) with fuel pump pressure on one side, and regulator spring (2) pressure, and intake manifold vacuum on the other side. The regulators function is to maintain a constant fuel pressure across the injectors at all times. The pressure regulator compensates for engine load by increasing fuel pressure as engine vacuum drops.
The cartridge regulator is serviced as a separate component. When servicing the fuel pressure regulator, insure that the O-ring backup, (3) large O-ring, (4) filter screen, (5) and small O-ring (7) are properly placed on the pressure regulator.
It's located on the fuel injector fuel rail !

Speedometer and Odometer
The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a gear-driven permanent magnet generator housed in the transaxle. The sensor generates a sine wave output with a frequency proportional to the vehicle speed. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) converts the signal to an output that switches to ground at a frequency of 4000 pulses per mile. The signal (CKT 817) is used by various vehicle components. The signal CKT 817 drives the following components:
Is your check engine light on ? More then likely it's what is called a stepper motor ! This stepper motor is inside the instrument cluster behind the speedometer gauge an is electronically controlled ! They are fixable , gm has had problems with certain ones ! The thing I do is hook up a scan tool that allows me to check it an check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! You could get one from a car salvage place $ 10- $20 , the whole instrument cluster !

Fuse box 1 is inside the car on the end of the right side of the dashboard. Map for fuse box is on the inside of the cover.
Fuse box 2 is under the hood. Black rectangle with 1.5inch knob that holds lid on. remove lid and more fuses and relays. The map for this fuse box is also under the lid.
