Probably I would check he fuel filter by the carburetor. There is probably some contaminants in it from bad gas and you need to exchange it. It could be a silver looking item with 2 ends with fuel hose attached to it. Hope this solves your problem.
Here is a link to a how-to video, but he doesn't show you the first few steps, so, first, set parking brake, disconnect negative battery cable, raise and support vehicle. crank shaft sensor replace 1998 Pontiac Bonneville 3800 motor p
You can remove the sensor and clean it, sometimes they will straighten out for a little while. Use brake cleaner to clean the sensor and gas film off the diaphragm in the small hole underneath that goes into the intake, DO NOT poke anything into that hole, or it will be ruined for sure! check the O-rings that seal it to the intake, replace if they look bad, coat with a small amount of motor oil to aid installation. Check electrical connection for corrosion, burnt wires, ect. Check vacuum hoses for cracks, splits, bad boot, holes, etc. Disconnect negative battery cable while you work on it, that will clear any codes stored that you have fixed and make the computer search for any new or different problem. No luck? - replace with new sensor. Also, check for intake manifold gasket leaks, that can cause the sensor to read wrong. With motor running, spray starting fluid (ether) around the intake gasket sealing areas. (not into throttle body) if it revs the motor up in a certain spot(s) try it a couple times there. If it continues to do that, replace the intake gasket.
