does this model require a special puller. manual says that it will come off manually. i can't get it off. rented a harmonic balancer puller from advance auto but it won't work. does this require a special puller?
YES YOU DO HAVE TO HAVE A SPECIAL ADAPTER FOR THE NORMAL BALLANCER PULLER. NAPA HAS THE TOOL AND THE # IS BK700-2461. ONCE AGAIN THE ADAPTER IS USED WITH THE BALLANCER PULLER YOU ALREADY HAD. YOU HAVE TO SCREW THE EXTENSIONS INTO THE BALLANCER AND INSERT ANOTHER EXTENSION INTO THE CRANKSHAFT TO GET THE OLD ONE OFF. WHY G.M. DID THAT TO US IS STILL A MYSTERY.

I have a 1996 Regal 3.8L. My service engine light came on, so I took the car to Advanced Auto where the did a diagnostic text. Error code p0441. The guy told me to replace the purge canister valve. I can't find this thing to save my life. I've located the solenoid (not the same part), evap switch, and canister, but where in the hell is the purge canister valve? I talked to someone else just earlier today, and he said that it's most likely located on or in close proximity to the fuel tank, but I'd like this confirmed before i go and rip my fuel tank off looking for this.
Thanks for your time,
Adam

THE PURGE SOLANOID IS ON THE ENGINE WITH A RED CONNECTOR ON IT. IT IS LOCATED ON THE REAR OF THE ENGINE ABOVE THE REAR VALVECOVER. YOU ARE ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR THE CANISTER VENT SOLANOID AND IT IS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR AND THEY FAIL OFTEN. GET THE PART FROM G.M. AND THEY CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHERE IT IS. THE G.M. PART IS UNDER $30.00.

My engine light is coming on and I was told that it was the crankshaft position sensor. I just bought the car and need to know if I have to replace this at this point the car is running fine
IF THE CRANK SENSOR GOES BAD ON THAT ENGINE THE CAR WILL STOP RUNNING OR NOT START IF TRYING TO START IT. NEED THE CODE INFO TO HELP YOU FURTHER. TRY GOING TO ADVANCED TO GET THEM TO READ THE CODE-THEY DO THIS FOR FREE.

3.8 L V-6 - a small black plastic elbow under Alternator is leaking coolant.
No photo in manuals, don't even know what to call it .... BARS leak no help.
YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE BELT TENSIONER.
IF YOU BUY THE CARTER BELT TENSIONER AT ADVANCED AUTO, IT COMES WITH: A PLASTIC ELBOW WITH O RINGS, TENSIONER, PULLEY, NEW O RING WHERE THE BELT TENSIONER MATES TO THE ENGINE BLOCK AND NEW O RINGS FOR THE INLET AND OUTLET CONNECTIONS ON THE BELT TENSIONER TO THE HEATER CORE (COST $72).
IF YOU DON'T REPLACE ALL THE ABOVE O RINGS THEN YOU CAN EXPECT MORE LEAKS.
IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE PLASTIC ELBOW YOU MUST REMOVE THE BELT TENSIONER ANYWAY. IF THE BELT HAS SEVERE CRACKS REPLACE IT ALSO.
STEPS:
-REMOVE BELT
-DISCONNECT BATTERY
-DRAIN ANTIFREEZ AND DISCARD
-REMOVE ALTERNATOR
-REMOVE BELT TENSIONER
-REMOVE PLASTIC ELBOW (DO NOT ALLOW BROKEN PIECES PLASTIC OR DIRT TO GET INSIDE THE ENGINE WATER CAVITIES.
-CLEAN ALL CONNECTION WHERE O RING WILL MATE.
-TO REASSEMBLE GO IN REVERS ORDER
-REFILL THE RADIATOR WITH COOLENT 50% MIX USE THE 5 YR GUARANTEE TYPE.
-MAKE SURE THE COOLENT RESERVIOR IS
FILLED TO THE HOT LEVEL MARK.
-RUN THE ENGINE UNTILE IT IT REACHES THE 1/4 % TEMP MARK ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE THEN TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND OPEN THE BLEED SCREW ON TOP OF THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING.
ALLOW THE AIR TO EVACUATE, YOU WILL SEE COOLENT COME OUT THEN CLOSE THE BLEED SCREW.
-BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU OPEN THE RADIATOR TO REFILL TO THE TOP.
-REPEAT THIS ONE MORE TIME.
-RUN THE ENGINE AND KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE' IF THE TEMPERATURE GOES BEYOND THE 1/2% MARK, SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE QUICKLEY AND LET THE ENGINE COOL.
THIS MAY TAKE HOURS TO COOL DOWN BUT THE COOLING SYSTEM WILL TURN FROM PRESSURIZED TO VACUUM AND DRAW COOLENT FROM THE RESERVOIR TO REFILL THE SYSTEM.
YOU WILL NOTICE THE LEVEL DROP IN THE RESERVOIR .

Typiclly this is caused by a failing Pressure Control Solenoid. Now in some cases, since you are in the 1996 model year you may have a vacuum modulator that controls the shift firmness that can be replaced as it is externally mounted. I dont know how best to describe what it looks like, but look down on your transmission, on the front side facing the radiator and if you see a canister like device that has a vacuum line running to it, that is the vacuum modulator and you could start by replacing that and see if it helps.
If you do not have the vacuum modulator and have instead the electronically controlled version of your transmission then you will have a Pressure Control Solenoid and it, unfortunately, is located on the inside of the transmission and cannot be easily replaced without dropping the whole transmission.
The pressure control solenoid is a common issue with your transmission (4T65) and Im leaning more towards you have the electronically controlled version (4T65E).

my 1996 buick regal brake lights wont work when i press them only the small window light gos on and when i press my emergencie flashers will only work in front side i can still use my turning signals and my back up lights but no matter what i looked at my fuses my bulbs even my wireing using a light buld tester nothing makes since at all about why my brake lights arnt working except for the tiny window stop light ??? if anyone has a idea plz let me know im not satisfied with having a mechanic look at my car when i can do it myself just need someone to teach me what to do
if all the fuses are good check the wiring harness at the back check if there,s a power coming out on it, you can use a tester for the continuity of the power output, or you can also use a test bulb to check them all. if it not working then the problem is wiring harness locate the worn out wires... have a good day..

Car has plenty of freon but won't blow cold air
I think you may have a clogged orifice tube (possible compressor failure starting) this can be checked with a system pressure test.
When an expansion valve or block fails, always replace the drier. Also flush the condenser and liquid lines.

I just fixed the cup holder in my 1999 Buick Regal. The spring out cup holder side piece fell off with the little spring too. I pull off the center console cover first, with 6 pressure pop in clips. Carefully pull up the panel from front to back. I had to disconnect the traction control wiring clip before I could remove the panel. Now you could look underneath and retrieve any missing pieces. You could reinstall the swing out side piece with the little spring. I also secured the top of the cup piece to the bottom base with tape to prevent it separating again. You can test the operation of the cup holder before reinstalling the center console cover. I believe the same console fit 1997 to 2003 Buick Regal model (please check). (update) The tape only held it for a little while. The joints on both sides were melted plastic tabs which broke after years of use. The joints were butted together. Just carefully put some super glue down to glue them together. Mine has been working ever since the super glue fix.
Yes absolutely you can my friend. and you are correct this will fit 1997 to 2004 actually!
