Where is EGR valve pintle position circuit located on my 1996 buick lesabre?

Do you know where the connector at the EGR valve is ? Has five wires . Pin C - brown wire is Pintle position signal to the PCM - engine computer . Do you know where the PCM is located on the vehicle ? Connector 2 pin 65 at the PCM is the other end of that circuit. The PCM supply's a 5 volt ref. voltage to the EGR at pin D gray wire . Sensor ground pin B - black wire . Connector 1 pin 58 at the PCM . Videos on youtube on how to test .

Look in the trunk to see if there is a round cover on the floor of the trunk. If there is then you'll have access to the sender. If not, then you'll have to drop the tank to get to it.

1996 LeSabre custom won't start.

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. Voltage and ground are both important. You could use a test light on the fuses in the fuse box to check for voltage. Some fuses are hot all the time, some go hot with the key on. You may have to check feed to and from ignition switch.

ECM Trouble shooting

Don't even THINK about replacing the PCM right now. That's way down the list of possibles. The P0102 can be caused by a significant vacuum leak and that would also cause a very high idle speed. Check the air duct that runs from the MAF to the intake. Look for anything that would let in unmetered air. The P0122 is pretty easy to check. Remove the plug from the TPS and measure reference voltage (key in RUN position) on the gray wire. It should be 5V dc. If it's not, backprobe the gray wire right at the PCM at pin 16. You should see 5-volts there. If you do, then you have a wiring issue between the PCM and TPS. The reference voltage is spliced between the PCM and the TPS. The splice provides the 5v to the linear EGR vavle, MAP and fuel tank pressure sensor. Until you check the reference voltage, you have NO basis to think that the problem is in the PCM.

How to take out a transmission

Are you sure you got all the bolts out? (Transmission to engine block bolts) Everything is removed from tranny until only the tranny to engine bolts are left. That is the last thing to remove, then the tranny and torque converter should slide back and away from the engine block. There are metal dowels between the tranny case and engine block-where the two mate up-these dowels can rust and stick, but a little prying will move the tranny back away from the engine. Make sure everything is removed from tranny, then check that all bolts are removed. It is easy to miss a bolt.

Where is the starter relay on a 1996 Buick LeSabre

ok. the relay is under dash drivers side left of the steering column. now first check for power with key in the start position. at the heavy yellow wire at the relay and then check the purple wire if both have power then your neutral safety switch mybe at fault. check it as well. check for power at the switch bolted to transmission. the two heavy wires going to the switch will be starter in and starter out. so check for power at the two there if power goes in but nothing comes out the change the neutral safety switch.

Why does the oil light come on while idling?

Low oil pressure or defective oil pressure switch/gauge. If vehicle has high mileage you my have an oil pump/main bearing issue causing low pressure. In some cases, using a heavier grade oil may help keep the light out

I'm trying to remove a harmonic balancer. I've got to the point of taking it off. The pulley remover is placed. But the bolt when completely down only turns the balancer. How to fix please

Are you using a gear puller or an actual harmonic bal. puller? You can use air tools(carefully), or to hold the balancer/pulley still, use a chain wrench with an old belt wrapped around to prevent damage. I would not recommend a 2 or 3 jaw type gear puller.

Transmission shuders at 40mph to 60mph

could be a tranny problem developing but cheap checks include checking uni joints or cv joints for looseness. Check rear bush of tranny for sloppy slip joint fitting ( rear drive only) lift tail shaft up and down. any movement allows an out of line tail shaft to occue hence the shudder.Check the color of the tranny oil Should be a bright cherry red. Any other color ( brownish red - tan) indicates possible tranny fault

How do I replace the fuel filter?

I believe this filter is threaded on each end to the fuel lines. Unscrew the fittings on each end of the filter and remove the bolt/bracket securing the filter to the vehicle. The filter should be located near the fuel tank. Use caution when loosening the fuel lines as fuel pressure will cause a spray of fuel.
