1992 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR,1.8 Dohc Turbo, CD5A chassis,4g93t engine,5spd

Hi
Having starting problems with my lancer, at first I thought it was a starter motor problem as I was having prior problems when car was warm or had stalled then it would not starter until car was abit cooler. Now my car cranks over but doesn't fully start, when it does bite, it doesn't idle long & it sounds like a helicopter & then it back fires. My car is running rich and has a Sard race fuel pressure regulator which is reading 40psi, is this normal? would this be a fuel filter/fuel pump problem? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Teher is a fault code stored in the transmission ecu. Try removing the negative battery terminal for 6 minutes and put it back let the car idle for 10 minutes an give it a normal drive and check if the light is still blinking, then you'll have to call in the dealer to get it scanned.
Cheers.

I have a code p0715, which is the input turbine speed sensor

where is this sensor located

The input/turbine speed sensor has nothing to do with the turbo. It is transmission related and is a circuit malfunction. I am having the same problem and it causes my car to downshift into 3rd gear (computer's fail safe gear) on the highway. The sensor is located above the transmission housing, and doesn't require you to take apart the tranny. I am having trouble finding the part number for this and where to buy it. Any help would be nice.

Radio, clock, interior light and central locking not working

Had a whining noise through the radio followed after a couple of minutes by a plastic burning smell. Turned car off but now radio, clock, and interior light not working. Also central locking from drivers door not working (from passanger side door fine). Any help appreciated. Pete

This is as a result of a short occurring most likely in the radio harness.

It happened me while working on a customers car. In my case checked all fuses and they all appeared fine, both those under the hood/bonnet and those underneath the steering wheel.

After studying the workshop electrical schemmatics for the car it appears that the clock, interior lights, central locking receiver and radio permanent live/battery are all on the one line.

In effect damage had occurred after the internal fuse panel, therefore all fuses were ok and supplying power across them, but at some point after there was a break in the wire.

However you DO NOT need to remove dash and or replace harnesses to rectify.

Look at the fuse panel underneath the steering wheel. Slot 18 (bottom RHS) and you will see in raised plastic 'BACK UP'. Inserting a 10A fuse here will restore the interior lights, radio, clock and your central locking.

There is a small plastic piece in the way which prevents a fuse going in. Simply use a thin pair of pliers, scissors or a screwdriver (or similar tool) to break this and all pieces of it away until you are able to insert the 10A mini blade fuse.

Problem Sorted!

(I believe the fact this back up exists is because the designers of electrical system at mitsibushi realised it had shortcomings or this would be a potential problem - and included the back up for such an occurence)

Where is the starter located

Where is the starter located at on a Mitsubishi Lancer 2002. I check under the hood in the front towards the grill under the headers... I need to find it.

I replaced the starter on my daughters 2002 lancer and did it the hard way by crawling under the car to figure out where it was first, and then working underneath to get it out. After performing the procedure I realized there is a much easier way to do it.
- The starter is located on the back side of the engine under the intake manifold towards the drivers side of center. It is very difficult to see from the top with everything still assembled.
Replacing the easy way:
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove the plastic air filter box first. After it is off you can easily see the starter down by the shifter linkage bracket.
3. Remove two bolds holding the shifter linkage bracket so it can be moved out of the way.
4. Remove wiring connectors from back of starter solenoid. One connector is just a slide on, the other main wire is held on by a metric nut. That one may look impossible to get at, but if you configure a 1/4 drive ratchet with the right sized deep well socket you have room to work it through a cut out in large mounting bracket that you will see below. I'm thinking the Japanese engineers put the cut out there for this purpose.
5. Remove two starter mounting bolts and allow the starter to slide down and back so as to rest on the bracket below.
6. Walk around to the passenger side of engine and reach down under intake manifold to pull starter up and out.
7. Reverse procedure to reassemble.
8. Done without ever crawling under the car!
