2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Cranks, but will not start.
Do you have a tach on the dash? If so crank it over and see if rpm climb, if not you may have a crank sensor out, if you have a test light you can check for injector pulse, sometimes a crank sensor will let you have spark but no injector pulse, there is also a fuse for injectors, you have 2 wires to the injector, connect the test light to the wires and turn it over and see if it blinks.
How to replace a ecm
241 F = 116.5 C so the engine is at or past boiling point
It is possible that the engine coolant temp sensor is what is shutting down the engine through the ECM
the engine starts and runs which doesn't make the ECM , the fault but it can be tested by the substitution of a known good ECM unit
There is a method of reading fault codes for the vehicle so it would be advisable to get them read professionally first

A couple of things could be wrong.
your valume control could be bad causing no sound to go to speakers.
The circuit board in the radio the controls the volume is damaged.
Mitsubishi Eclipse, 5 speed man. trans - Won't shift after driving 20 minutes...
indicates a problem in the spigot bush in the crank shaft
it is dry and when it heats up , it is seizing on the input shaft(clutch shaft) of the transmission
up shifting is fairly easy as the hear synchro's do the job along with correct engine rpm
down shift overloads the synchro action unless you increase the rpm to match the ration to road speed
2001 eclipse gt revs up when shifting then settles down also noticed rubbery smell from engine area no leaks
How long have you driven on the nylon timing belt in the engine ?
What is the recommended distance before the timing belt needs replacement is it 100,000 kilometers ?
Also the bearings that the timing belt runs on may be worn out
Is there an adequate amount of oil in the engine ?
If the timing belt bearings are worn the timing belt gets hot and could cause that burning smell you mentioned .
Note if the timing belt breaks while the engine is running it could result in engine damage.
Electrical Problem
It sounds to me like you have a grounded positive wire going to the chasis of the car. This causes your battery to go dead. Check radio conections as this wire might be from the speakers. Good luck!!
Headlights wont turn on
Check list for fun!
how old are the bulbs? are they broken? burned? new?
Have you been in an accident that may have caused come issue either physical damage or electrical problems?
Is everything connected any loose wires?
The lights are automatic or not? If you have to turn them on manually is the lever or knob functioning properly?
it could be very simple or a bit complicated. Hope that by checking these areas you are able to discover what the issue is. Also another thing to keep in mind is are the other lights working well? Good luck!
Where is the pcm located on 2000 hyundai elantra?
Only a dealer or repair shop doing the proper testing, would
be replacing that item, which hardly ever fails
Once replaced, it would most likely have to be reflashed as built
& updated ,if there are any
Safe mode
run the fault codes and fix what ever put the ECM in safe mode . Then using a scanner reset the ecm/CPU program

Pass smog test
change your oil and oil filter. Add a bottle of octane boost to the fuel tank then top off with fuel. Drive vehicle for about twenty minutes then have emissions tested. Unless you have a bad catalytic converter, you should pass emissions.
