2001 Mitsubishi Galant - Page 3 Questions & Answers
I asked about how to remove trim over windshield. My question should be can the outside trim over windshield be reused after removing to stop windshield leak.
I don't know about your Mitsubishi but generally windscreen trim is laid loose around the screen and theoretically can be reused. In practice the windscreen adhesive bead usually spreads and catches the trim in places effectively placing an element of doubt over the fact.
If a new trim isn't readily available or is prohibitively expensive, as long as care is taken to leave the visible part undamaged when cutting out the old screen or removing the trim the windscreen adhesive is so good it will bond even damaged trim and can be held securely.
One problem with reusing trim is when attempting to refit it will often be found to be too short. Contaminants from the atmosphere and UV exposure does tend to alter the properties of plastic. Once the trim has been removed shrinkage can sometimes be severe and rapid.
Windscreen water leaks should be none-existent with bonded screens but when windscreens must be replaced the fitters usually manage to scratch the paintwork in the screen recess and have no time or will to repaint. The adhesive bead rarely covers the exposed steel and as the trim is not designed to keep water out rust soon begins to attack and eventually destroys part of the windscreen bond and even sometimes eats through the steel into the windscreen pillar or roof.
My 2001 Mitsubishi Galant will not fire, what can I do?
If you have no spark then you need to track that down. The cam and crank sensors were worth changing but none of the rest of it will have any effect on it firing ( the timing belt will just make it fire at the correct time but won't cause it to not fire at all) you need 4 elements to have the engine run so check for each of these... 1 would be fuel. Check that you have the Correct fuel pressure, 2 would be air. Ensure that the air filter is not so clogged it can't breathe (not typical in the automotive world but it is possible) 3 would be compression in all the cylinders and 4 is spark to ignite it all. The other not so common thing to check is that there isn't something in your exhaust pipe or the pipes aren't bent keeping it from exhausting. Cut off while driving down road. Why won't it start?
best money saving idea is to run the fault codes
that will show if it is an ECM unit or something as simple as a faulty immobiliser unit
If the cam shaft is turning ,then the belt will be operational as they work or are broken
(the condition will determine the period before broken occurs)
check coil/s for voltage and if it has a distributor and cap check the cap for internal problems and the rotor button is tight and turning.
What is limp mode and how do you get it out of it?
limp mode is when the ECU or PCM has detected a potentialy serious condition with the vehicle ,so will only allow you to limp home with the vehicle , get the OBD codes read asap and this will tell you where the problem lies
Radio code for 2001 galant.serial is 09254075.part is 472956
More than likely, you need to go to the dealer. Anti-theft features in radios prevent usage in other vehicles in models after 2000. If you go to a junkyard, you may be able to find and older one to put in and by-pass needing the code. Better yet, Crutchfield sells great aftermarket radio/cds for most any car and has the trim panels to make it appear like a professional install.
