2006 Chevrolet Express Questions & Answers
Undeterminable engine nosie 2006 Chev express van, 4.8 votec
Yes, it is a mechanical oil pump. Just for peace of mind, you could have the oil pressure checked. A mechanic shop could do it real easy-you remove the oil pressure sensor or sending unit from the engine block and hook up a "mechanical oil pressure gauge", then run the engine with gauge attached and check pressure against the specs for your model- it is a specified pressure at a specified engine rpm. I f oil pressure is within specs, I can't imagine anything else about the pump that could cause that noise. It is a compact unit with a couple of heavy internal gears.
If your mechanic didn't think it was a bearing or rod either, you should be safe there. He would know the sound of a rod bearing or mechanical problem like that, and if it is different from your sound. Beyond that and the oil pump, I just don't have any ideas.
Hope you find it, good luck.
The gauges didnt work we check all the fuses and they are ok
Did you check for voltage at the applicable fuse/s? Use a testlight and check for voltage at the fuse circuit with key on. The gauges usually get voltage feed from the ignition switch, key on.
I haven't looked at your wiring yet, you may have to check feed to and from ignition switch.
Found these two fuses for instrument cluster. One is hot all the time, the other goes hot with the key on. If voltage and ground for the instrument cluster are good, something else is wrong.

So, I would guess from this the drivers side would be odd bank, or would that make to much sense? Hopefully this helps!
4.3 V-6 chevrolet has no power
the no power is a mode called "LIMP" this the ECM sets if there is a major fault in one or many of the engines sensors, to find what one your gonna have to visit one with a "code reader" this includes the "dealer" or a national auto parts chain store some of those even read the code for free just for the chance to sell you the sensor , this reminds me of one i had a year or so ago a guy that work with me parked his pick up under a tree and the next day it would start but ran terrible , turns out a animal that lived in the tree ate the wires under the hood overnite
