I would remove the belt first. It probably needs to be replaced anyways. Better to do it now , than pay a towtruck later.

You need to find out if your car is leaking water onto the ground or if it is consuming it internally.

Here is a suggestion: When your car engine is cool, top off the radiator. The next day, before you start it, make sure the radiator is still full, and check under the car for puddles to see if it has leaked. Next,find a dry patch of pavement and start the car and let it warm up. Observe if anything leaks to the ground . If so, you can try to safely see the general location of the leak,to help figure out the problem. Look over all hoses, the radiator, and the water pump area for signs of wetness. If nothing is noted, re check the radiator level after the car cools again. If it is consuming water internally, then you most likely have a head gasket problem.

Check the coils.

if its a coded radio you wiill need the brand and model # so you may have to take it out to find it

If the battery dont got power then its your altinator because thats what keeps its battery OR it could possiably be the wires and spark plugs

This happed to me in my 318i, car sat for 3 months and it turned out to be the starter moter seized up.

A ignition is in two parts, where you put the key to turn it and a second part that is the ignition itself. Between the two parts there is a small flat pin or bar. This is where your problem is, the pin/bar is broken. You will have to replace the ignition to solve the problem.

when starting the car the starter motor uses a huge amount of current

normal things like lights radio ac dont use that much

most of the time the radio will work but the car will not start

i recomend recharging the battery before you start replacing anything

i amagine that changing the barrel would not be that hard
the hardest bit would be finding a barrel and keys

key fob may need reprogramming or battery in it

Just put "BMW ignition lock problem" in google's search field and read all about it. Hope it helps but I haven't mastered the technique of manipulating the (paper clip/small allen key/piece of wire) described in various posts on other sites. Good luck!

Have you checked the alternator?

one of the flexible pipes in the fuel line has perished

Try inserting the key in the drivers door lock and turning the key to the unlock position.
