Hi JT. The blower can be accessed from under the hood. The plastic grille trim piece must be removed. There is a panel held to the firewall with 4 screws that comes off. The wiring harness in that area needs moved out of the way and the plastic engine covers come out of the way. The blower motor has a plastic cover held in place with small springs clips. The clips are easy to drop so be careful. The blower motor wheels must be removed and installed in the car. It is not possible to install or remove the motor with the wheels on it. It sometimes also helps to put the wipers in the vertical position.

I don't know that you reset it but normally you get the right key or disengage the security system it depends on the model of the car.

Have you tried E46 Fanatics? Their website is free and awesome for your model. There is a lot there about keys. http://forum.e46fanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4 My car, an '02 330 CI had a dead battery that didn't act like a dead battery. Will your car start with jumper cables on it? I bought a new key at the dealer for $204. They had to program it there to make it work. I know you can't move your car to get it there though. plug gap should be on the under hood decal on the rad support/inner fender but somewhere around the motor.

FIRST THING YOU DID NOT MENTION , DID YOU REPLACE THE LIGHT BULB ? DID YOU CHECK FOR POWER TO THE UNIT, GOOD TIME TO DO THAT IS WHEN YOU CHANGE THE LIGHT BULB, THEN CHECK FOR GROUND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BULB, FIX MISING POWER OR GROUND, OR REPLACE BULB.
