P0300 random misfire detected
Check spark plugs and wire set. I had a mechanic replace my spark plugs by hand and he didn't tighten one well enough, when a different mechanic figured out that, he had damaged the wire set. A pin hole in the wire set caused it to shake uncontrollably, especially at higher speeds. I would check that first, it's much less expensive than replacing the coil.
Service light on
It could be almost anything picked up by the many sensors in the car. If you really want to know you need to get an ODB2 reader that connects to the multi pin connection under the driver's side of the dashboard. It's the same place that the mechanics use to test your emissions. It comes with the codes that say what is wrong.
Vw ignition problems
The ignition switch is the main electrical switch in your car. When a key is placed inside the ignition and turned, it is supposed to start your vehicle's engine. you may encounter problems with the ignition switch. The process of fixing it is the same for all vehicles. If your Honda has an automatic transmission, make sure it is in park. The key will not turn in the ignition otherwise. For more read: Chinasinoy
How to check if alternator is working correctly
Absolutely DO NOT disconnect the battery while the unit is running. It usually kills the alternator. There are a number of tests, the best being a bench test. But at 2,000 rpm, you should read 13.8 to 14.6 at the battery (WITH the battery fully charged). You would read less voltage with a low state of charge in your battery. What fails in alternators commonly is diodes. These are one way valves for electricity, and convert the alternating current into DC, which your car needs. When one (of 6 or more) diode fails, there is a draw on the battery when the unit is shut down....The alternator does charge, somewhat, but not at full capacity. This is why a bench test really helps eliminate misdiagnosis.

How to remove a water pump on a 2004 jetta 2.0
I have a 2004 Jetta 2.0 BBW engine with 111,000 mi and I should be thinking about changing both the pump & timing belt because they're in the same location. I did change them on my 1991 Accord after the bearing in the pump went. Thank goodness the belt didn't break and mess up the valves. These two engines are very similar (one's a rice burner the other sauerkraut) So here's the best thing that I can tell you, buy a Hayes Repair Manual (VW 1999-2005). Follow the sections on water pump and timing cover removal. The mechanical part of the work is easy, it's the braineac thing of getting TopDeadCenter, the belt and all the pulleys in the proper alignment, if not, kerbang. You will need a special tool to line up the camshaft at TDC( shows it in the manual and you might be able to rent one) I used a steel straight edge on my Accord. It's not as scary as it sounds. You can do it if you check twice at each step and do it right once. PS it's cheaper to replace any parts that look worn then to tear it all apart again. Hope this helps and saves you $500 or $600 at a shop.
Airconditioner on my 2004 jetta will not kick on
Had the same problem on my 2004 Jetta this summer. First check if it's low on freon If the clutch kicks on and off it needs a charge. Suctpress should be about 40-45psi. If you have the correct charge and the compressor clutch does not click when you turn switch on,the clutch is bad. I found it easier to change the whole compressor than just the clutch which requires special tools. You need to install a new filter drier also before recharging. Before I would spend $400 on a new compr I went to a local pick & pull and got one for $15 with a 30 day warranty. Doing the work myself including Freon, new compr oil, the filter which I got on-line from RockAuto.comand the used compressor it came to a whopping $90. If you have a repair manual, follow the instructions carefully and do your own repairs you can do this. If not, it's still cheaper buying your own parts and paying someone to do it. You can also google instructions. I'm 81 yrs young and if I can do this anyone can. I hope this helped.
