They had the right key .

If you car equipped with sunroof check the 2 hoses connected to the sunroof mechanism if the they off, but you have to remove the the head liner down, or check you sunroof rubber molding, and your doors rubber molding as well .

it's telling you that it's time to have the brakes checked.  It doesn't matter how much lining is left because you never drive until all the lining is gone as this leads to very expensive brake repairs.  So if you don't want to replace too many parts...get it in the shop because it may also indicate a lesser breaking efficiency and be dangerous.

Duct Tape is the cheap solution, or electrical tape.

There is a little black cap beside the shifter, you can't miss it. Pop the cap off with your key, and inside there will be a button, push that button down and hold it there, with the brakes applied. Now the shifter will work.

Go on Ebay and take a look they're not that much.

I agree with almost everyone that wrote. Check your spark plugs and maybe your wires. That would be the first thing and the cheapest. Good Luck!

I use to sell these cars and I also have a 2003 VW jetta that had the same problem. But I took it back to the dealership and they fixed it, because it was a recall.

There's another thing to take a look at, pull the center piece of the steering wheel off, where the air bag and VW emblem is at and see if your getting a good connection. You can't miss the piece of copper that I'm talking about, it may need adjustment to complete the circuit. And if that doesn't work you can use just about any horn off of any car from a junk yard. Plus its EASY to replace and cheap!

try honking the horn normally with horn button <key must be on> if horn works it is in the programing for comfort and convieniance system if no honk it's just the horn or wiring to horn.
