2001 Mazda 626 will not engage when I press gas
Check the fluid level!! there are sensors inside the gearbox, starting on a hill would give a different reading to the flat, worth a try, auto wont work properly if fluid has either got too old or level is low

I would be checking the temp SENDER unit for the temp gauge as it may be faulty and making the gauge read wrong
run the fault codes to check for coolant SENSOR for a possible fault as well
Transmission
If its a front wheel drive car it could be a drive shaft
Hello, my 01 mazda 626 has no forward at all. the
did u remove the transmission and have it fixed or u just got one from the junker because shoul have low gear forward at least if ur second tranny have a good reverse and no low frward seems u pick a bad one and assuming the fluid level is good
Where is the a reset inertia switch for fuel and where is it?
If you were in an accident, it would need reset. Most likely your pump has died. The switch is on the passenger side. either under the dash, behind the kick panel, you'll see a hole in it to put your finger. Or it could be in the trunk behind the carpet. This is where I have found the switch in all makes and models.
Gas consuming
First of all, is it leaking anywhere ? Second check your air filter.Third check your tire pressure on all tires,make sure they are all the same and at what psi they are supposed to be.Fourth check for mud caked on your inside rims.Also if car is running rough get plugs and maybe wires and get an oil change.

THAT really sounds like someone is pranking you by swapping your car for another car just like it.
