I have a 2004 Buick

It's probably a bad internal mode switch . The sensor is input to the PCM - engine computer . The lever assembly-manual shaft detent with internal mode switch (IMS) is a sliding contact electrical switch assembly that corresponds to the PRNDL position selected. Each of the PRNDL positions has a unique ground pattern on four wires from the PCM. The assembly consists of two major components: • The internal mode switch that consists of: - The housing (1), which makes up the stationary contacts. - The insulator (2), which makes up the moving contacts and is secured on the detent lever (4). • The lever assembly which consists of: - The manual shaft (3) - The detent lever (4) The range detection is accomplished by securing the moving contacts to the detent lever. When the driver selects a PRNDL position, the detent lever inside the transmission rotates. This rotates the insulator which in turn grounds the four wires in a unique pattern for each gear selection, corresponding to the PRNDL position selected. The IMS is electrically connected by five wires (four of which the PCM supplies voltage to and one wire that is a common ground) to the transmission pass through connector. Range Selector Displays Incorrect Range The transmission internal mode switch (IMS) is a sliding contact switch attached to the selector detent inside the transmission side cover. The four inputs to the PCM indicate the position of the transmission range selector. The input voltage level at the PCM is high, B+, when the IMS is open and low when the switch is closed to ground. The four input parameters represented are Signals A, B, C and P, Parity. Refer to Transmission Internal Mode Switch Logic . 1 Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Select IMS on the scan tool. Place the range selector in each transmission range: P, R, N, D4, D3, D2 and D1. Does each range selected match the scan tool IMS display? -- Go to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Intermittent Conditions in Engine Controls - 3.8L Go to Step 2 2 Select IMS A/B/C/P on the scan tool. Place the range selector in each transmission range: P, R, N, D4, D3, D2 and D1. Does the IMS A/B/C/P display the specified values for each range? HI/HI/HI/HI Go to Step 12 Go to Step 3 Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop !

I have a 2004 Buick Regal when driving my car all the warning lights in the dash board start flashing and then my car cuts off and usually starts right back up what could be the cause of this

Without knowing the engine specification, I would check the fusible links at the starter solenoid and have your alternator tested for a shorted rectifier bridge

Both headlights went out at same time

The odds that both bulbs failed is like my cozens slim and none. There is a fuse that could have failed or possibly the light switch. eliminate those problems check to see if you have voltage at the bulb. If so it is either the bulb or ground connection.

Tranny slips when i accelerate from dead stop/

Before I would drop the transmission to replace it, I would add about 1/2 cup of brake fluid to it, and when you take it from PARK, (to go in forward motion) pull the gear selector all the way to "1" and as it starts rolling , then bump it up into drive. The brake fluid will "soften" the seals inside the transmission and "clean" some of the trash off the bands in it. This should be your decision to try, I did it and after about 300 miles, just put it in "drive" as normal, no need to replace fluid sooner, just normal intervals. Use this info. at your discretion, best of luck with it!

No start...help

It can still be the security system even though there is no light. The security system controls the light, if it is malfunctioning, so can the light. The symptoms sound 100% security related. Maybe the sensor. It's really hard to tell. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Car won't start occasionally

From your symptoms it sounds like a damaged wire or connection. The ignition switch is a strong possibility. Take a look at the gauge cluster. Pay attention to the lights. When this "No Start" occurs, do you notice any lights flickering, flashing, or not coming on when it normally would? If there is anything else that you think of pertaining to recent repairs, symptoms, or tests that you have performed, please write back. Good luck.
