I started my 2004 BMW

Serious...no. A problem..yes. You may have hardened valve stem seals or a bad crankcase vent valve...either way it needs fixed.

Eventually the engine will build up burnt oil residue in the combustion chambers and foul spark plugs. It is also ******* those expensive catalytic converters under the car.

These do suffer from engine crank case vent failure quite often although this will trip a code and light the Check Engine lamp.

I just had my rear

You can not simply reset the light, you have to actually replace the brake sensor wire that connects to the rear brakes. This is a sensor that is worn through, when the brakes get low, the sensor rubs the rotor and breaks the connection, turning on the light. You need to get a new sensor from a dealer and replace the brakes and sensor together to get the light off.

After replacing the wire as stated do the following to reset the light and mileage countdown timer.

To enter this mode, with ignition on, hold the odo reset button (located on the left side of the instrument panel under the tach) for about 10 seconds.

The center of the info display will change to "service". It will have an icon for which service feature and the miles/date left until service is required. These icons are the same as displayed on the I-drive service screen. So, you can go through the Idrive service screen to get familiar with the icons prior to doing this.

Once in this mode, push the reset button to cycle through the various service items.

To reset a service item that is displayed, hold the reset button. I don't remember how long, but the display will change to a reset mode. You must release the button once it enters this reset mode. Then you will need to confirm the reset by pressing the reset button again.

The reset service interval will then be changed.

You can continue pressing the reset button to scroll through the other icons.

I think to exit, simply shut off the ignition.

I need to chang my

First all, and after that take off the two caps on the engine cover, use 10mm socket to take out those nuts or bollts. Pull off the cover. You'll then see your ignition coils, unplug them by raising the small clamp up and it pops the connector plugs out. pull and twist slightly on the ignition coils (gripping from its base) and pull out each ignition coil 1 at a time and you'll see your spark plugs.. keep in mind to either do 1 at a time or remember which ignition coil is for which cylinder (note and draw this important info) or check in this link the right firing order.

Use ur spark plug socket, extension and breaker bar of torque wrench to take out spark plugs, they may be tight and a lil hard to get. Make sure to check for any oil in the cylinder as it'll be a sign of the spark plug seals on their way out and in need of replacing but then thats a valve cover gasket job, after you get the plugs out replace them.

Now some people recommend this and others dont but you have a choice of adding some spark plug anti sieze compound to the threads and a ignition boot anti sieze also. note some spark plugs already come with anti sieze alread applied. also good to look for a spark plug you dont have to gap. In our BMW forum
could find this DIY with images and detailed tips to this job: DIY for an M54 spark plug replacement on a 2002 BMW 525i E39

Hope this helps and...noce job!!!
