Car blowing white smoke from the tail pipe

Sounds like water is going in to your engine. Check the dip stick out to see if it's milky.

My car is 2003 Z4

I would not drive the car until the problem is fixed as the engine will over heat an seize up. You may have a leaking radiator hose or heater hose which you can fix with little trouble. Put water in the engine start it up and look for the leak.

When operating drivers door electric window it makes a grinding screeching noise & gets stuck half way & have to close window by operating switch while pulling window up

If sounds like the window came off the window track & when it gets halfway up the window motor may start grinding. 1st try lubing the rubber window seals w/ white grease to see if that helps . if not remove the inner door cover & ck to see if the glass is firmly sealed to the track & lube all gears & motor gears . If window is out of the track a SPECIFIC ADHESIVE GLUE is made for it. Reset it in the track & re glue it in position .Don't forget to lude the edges & seals. GOOD LUCK, Frank M

Cluster is not working. External lights are but no noise or internal lights shown.

Check in fuse box for a blown fuse , most electrical troubles comes from fuses. since exterior lights and interior lights are often on 2 separated circuit . it could be your problem. if not , the you need to see if you have power and gnd on your cluster connector.

Why has my drivers windscreen wiper suddenly stopped working?

There is one motor driving both wiper arms. If one side has stopped and the other side still works, it is likely that the point there the are connects to the drive is stripped or slipped off. Check at the point where the driver side wiper arm is attached to the drive / pivot point

Manual opening a z4 convertible top

The direct answer is there is a z shaped tool that comes in the tool kit in your trunk. This is a hex ended key that will fit in the motor. Access the motor is also in your user Guide. In the center of roof near the rear view mirror is an access panel to motor area. pry lose the panel and access motor. Place wrench in motor and wind away. There should be a direct arrow noting the direction of rotation. Note this will take sever thousand rotations of the wrench, it is a slow process but works.

Will a a failed soft top convertible top motor show up as a OBD fault code

It will not show up with a typical P code from Autozone. It might show up with a dedicated code reader for specifically BMW. My code reader with BMW extended program does not show it. To trouble shoot this without a BMW code reader, try your buttons first, if you do not hear a motor noise, then you need to check if motor is getting power when button is pressed. Take of access panel in center of roof forward near rear view mirror. You will be able to access the motor there. Probe the electrical connections going to the motor and have someone push the buttons. Review the meter while buttons are pressed to see if motor is getting approx. 12 volts. If so then the motor may be dead. If there is not activity at the motor as far as 12 volts, then you have an electrical supply issue which could be several options: Electrical wiring, loose plug somewhere, a bad fuse (most common), a bad switch (probably not if both switches do not respond to electrical test), or a bad relay. Remember to check the truck are for the roof storage panel. If this is in the up position it will not allow enough roof for roof the store in truck and will not allow roof to move, retract.

Does low voltage in ignition have to do with a weak battery

If the voltage drops more than is normal during the ignition cycle, this can be caused by a weak/old battery (Insufficient crank amperage) or by problems with the starter motor. Most auto part shops will test your electrical system for you for free and can determine whether the battery is having problems, the alternator is failing, or the starter motor is faulty.

Changing spark plugs on a 2005 BMW Z4 2.5

The top of the coil has a part that flips up and releases the wire harness. Then you simply pull up on the coil (can put a screw driver through the plastic loop for leverage) and pull it off. You may need to wiggle it back and forth (twisting motion) to get it to pop loose. It takes a fair amount of force. I just changed all 6 of mine on a 325 recently.

How do i change fuel filter z4

The fuel filter is inside the fuel tank and is part of the fuel pump / fuel level unit. It is not normally replaced as a maintenance item like an air or oil filter unless there is a problem with the fuel supply. This is not an advisable DIY job. The tank must be removed and flushed of contamination, the fuel pump / filter / pressure regulator / level sensor are usually replaced at this time, and this is all dangerous should fuel be spilled or dripped on a hot light bulb.

My airbag light for 2005 bmw 325i is on

BEFORE doing any of my suggestions read up about working on the airbag system and DISSCONNECT the vehicle battery and go and have a cuppa while the system discharges. Airbags go off like an explosion and injury could occur.Moving on: Your fault is most likely a faulty passenger presence seat pad located inside the passenger seat. The pads degrade with age.It could also be simply a bad connection ot the pre-tensioner module. I've had both faults. Again disconnect the battery as the pretensioner is an explosive charge device.Get a cheap (tenner on ebay) OBD2 bluetooth diagnostic unit and download a free app such as Torque Lite. You can then interrogate the cars computer using your phone or tablet and read the fault codes. A garage will read them but charge you 30 quid upwards to read them. Youtube has info about a mod to avoid having to spend over 100 quid for a new seat mat. The Occupancy seat sensor is to prevent the passenger side airbag deploying in an accident if no passenger is present. The mod simply makes it always deploy. Oxidation of contacts in the connectors to any safety device can cause the car to log a fault code and show warning lights. Removal and reconnection of plugs and sockets can cure this poor connection. Again DISCONNECT the battery before working on the vehicle. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.You will then have to reset the fault codes stored before the airbag light will go off. This can be done using your phone or tablet with suitable software.
