It could be the overdrive engaging and disengaging. Is your SEL (Service Engine Soon) Light coming on? have you ever changed your transmission fluid? it could need servicing.

glow light bulb could be burned out.but glow plugs is control by ECM AND RELAY.do your vechicle start but you dont see glow plug light on to let you know glow plugs are energized heating up.also check glow plug fuse, look in owner manual in glovecompartment it will show all fuses and relays locations.
