Has the timing belt or chain ever been replaced?

The only way a lot of bulbs can burn out at once is overvoltage. Check your charging voltage with the car running, using a multimeter. Should be 13.8 volts; with the car off, about 12.6.

I am surprised it would even run with that much overfill. Drain the excess oil to the correct level. If excessive blue smoke is present, internal damage has occurred, if not its probably OK.

Hi Its probably not really worth repairing such an old system. I would replace it with something more modern with better sound and control. CD s are kinda out these days when most of your music and nav are on your smart phone . However, you could remove cd player, remove covers and using cotton buds and solvent, gently clean the pickups for the laser. Its probably full of crud. Good luck Roger

That is your problem for purchasing a VW. Better get a Tow truck to take it to a good VW mechanic if you can find one

have the fault codes read and look for a problem EVAP system not venting the tank ( opening the gas cap to put in fuel is allowing the tank to vent until the next time) never on fuel lights as they are only an indication and can be off

No it is not a fuse problem it is most likely a defective cluster, it is computer controlled.

Try using a cd lens cleaner first see if that cures it.
