Anti theft system flashes and will not turn over. Sounded like a starter issue.

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/ 26165267-ozwd3tpidfkqbrptmhq5jea2-1-0.jpg

How do I take inside door panel off

Tools Needed: Flathead screwdriver (the pointier the end the better) T30 torx wrench Removing the panel: Before the panel can be removed you must start by removing the bolts holding it on. Begin by locating the black rubber square in the pocket on the arm rest 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-0.jpg To remove it wedge a flathead screwdriver under it and pop it up 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-2.jpg Undo the 2 T30 Torx bolts holding the control panel down. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-5.jpg Next is to remove the control panel. To do so, pry it up with a flathead. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-9.jpg Once its up, undo the 3 connections and put it somewhere. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-14.jpg 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-20.jpg Next pry open the cap in the door handle cubby (if someone can post a way to not break it that would be great) 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-27.jpg Remove the T30 torx bolt behind it. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-35.jpg Next remove the button thing on the side of the door panel. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-44.jpg To remove it, push inward on the inner circle and pry it off with a flathead 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-54.jpg To undo the bottom portion of the panel, start by pushing the flathead behind the panel 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-65.jpg Pull the screwdriver away from the door to release the pin. Do this along the bottom of the whole panel until all nine pins have been released. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-77.jpg Finally before you can remove the panel. Stick the flathead behind the piece holding the tweeter and pop the pressure clip loose. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-90.jpg To lift the panel off put your hands on the side off the panel and pull the bottom away from the door. Then lift up, releasing the panel from the channel at the top of the door. Lift it over the top of the lock pole thing. The latch cable will need to be removed next. It is simply held on by a clip. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-104.jpg Once the cable is released the final thing to do is disconnect the final remaining connections. Once the connections are disconnected the panel can be completely removed. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-119.jpg Doing the passenger side door is basically the same. The only difference is that the bolts are in different locations and there are only 2 connections One of the bolts is in the door handle pocket, just like the drivers side 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-135.jpg Once again i managed to snap the little cover off again. To locate the other 2 bolts, you need to remove the metallic grey trim. Begin by sticking the flathead in the side of it 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-152.jpg Pry along the edges until you can pull it off 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-170.jpg 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-189.jpg The 2 bolts will be located under neath. Remove each of the 2 T30 torx bolts. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-209.jpg 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-230.jpg Just like the driver side, you next need to undo all the clips along the bottom of the panel as well as the little button thing on the side and the pressure clip by the tweeter. Lift it up to release it from the channel and disconnect the cable and the connections. When putting it all back together, just reverse what you did and it should go back together no problem. Just make sure (this took me awhile to figure out) that when you put the button thing in that you make sure the inner circle is popped out. 25120304-etqrlrti5hbclqlowkwdhbst-5-252.jpg Insert it with it popped out and then push the inner circle in.

GTP. Why did speedometer quit working?

The problem may lie in the driver side panel where the wire chassis attaches to the fuse box. Had same problem with 2005 Pontiac Grand Am. I just moved it around and I got my gauges back. Only other option is going to be the speedometer sensor that sits where the older model cars had the cable speedometer mount. Getting to the sensor is going to be tough if it needs to be replaced. Pull out your manual and look for speedometer sensor or ctrl sensor panel fuse. It may also be under the hood on the left side towards the driver side door. Hope this helps.

While driving antitheft light comes on and all the gauges go flat, car keeps runnig, want to disable system, not sure what to look for

Before doing something drastic ,have it checked out for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . It may not be the anti-theft system ,gauges going flat would be more like a communication problem between modules . PCM / BCM / instrument cluster etc.. That also could cause theft light coming on . If your not sure what to look for ,take it to a ASE certified professional . You may render your vehicle useless if you don't know what your doing . Serial Data Power Mode Master On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle, the PMM is the body control module (BCM). The PMM receives 3 discrete ignition switch signals to differentiate which power mode will be sent over the Serial Data circuits. The 3-wire Ignition Switch table below illustrates the state of these inputs in correspondence to the ignition switch position: Serial Data Messages The modules that depend exclusively on serial data messages for power modes. stay in the state dictated by the last valid PMM message until they can check for the engine run flag status on the serial data circuits. If the PMM fails, the modules monitor the serial data circuit for the engine run flag serial data. If the engine run flag serial data is True, indicating that the engine is running, the modules fail-safe to RUN. In this state, the modules and their subsystems can support all operator requirements. If the engine run flag serial data is False, indicating that the engine is not running, the modules fail-safe to OFF-AWAKE. In this state, the modules are constantly checking for a change status message on the serial data circuits and can respond to both local inputs and serial data inputs from other modules on the vehicle. Indicators and Warning Messages Refer to Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation . Engine Coolant Temperature Gage The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the PCM/ECM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to 38?°C (100?°F) if: ?€¢ The PCM/ECM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit.

?€¢ The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications from the BCM.

Fuel Gage The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the fuel level as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the fuel level. The fuel gage defaults to E (empty) if: ?€¢ The PCM/ECM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.

?€¢ The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications from the BCM.

When the fuel level is less than 14 percent, the low fuel indicator illuminates. Odometer The instrument panel cluster (IPC) contains a season odometer and a trip odometer. Momentarily press the trip/reset switch in order to toggle between the season odometer and the trip odometer. Press the trip/reset switch for greater than 2 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The odometer is calculated and stored electronically in the body control module (BCM). The BCM uses the vehicle speed information from the powertrain control module (PCM) to calculate the odometer. The odometer displays 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. The IPC stores a backup copy of the odometer value incase the IPC stops receiving a valid odometer value from the BCM. Speedometer The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the ECM/PCM. The IPC receives the vehicle speed information from the BCM via the serial data circuit. The speedometer defaults to 0 kmh (0 mph) when the following occurs: ?€¢ The powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.

?€¢ The IPC detects a loss of serial data communication from the BCM.

Tachometer The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine speed as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the engine speed. The tachometer will default to 0 RPM if: ?€¢ The PCM/ECM detects a malfunction in the engine speed sensor circuit.

?€¢ The IPC detects a loss of serial data communication from the BCM.

Air is leaking under dash hit the brakes heard a pop now car starts, but wont idle no brakes

The vacuum hose on the power brake booster (right behind the master cylinder), (where you put the brake fluid) has probably popped off or cracked. If so you will hear a hissing noise & have a loss of power brakes. Either reinstall the hose if possible or replace it if it is damaged. Good Luck Frank M
