Hello, Well, I can't tell by your explanation if the knob stem is broken & just spinning around or if it feels normal and nothing happens. So, I guess I would first have you check all the fuses labeled "AC" or "Heater". Might be just a blown fuse, but remember, fuses always blow for a reason. There are many things that can be causing your problem like the heater/ac fan speed relay or a broken wire, etc. I don't how auto repair savvy you are but, Google "Mazda 3 a/c panel". You will see many things on that first page like inexpensive replacement knobs, etc. There are even several YouTube videos on how to gain access to your ac/heater control panel. There is a wealth of information there. If you are not a do-it-yourselfer, you can at least look through there to educate yourself before you take your car to someone. As others said, check your power connections. Regardless, no, you do not need to reset the computer. Might want to clear the trouble code after repairs if it you still have a warning indicator on.

Did it rust off or get banged up at some point? I know my Grand Prix rides pretty low and I am always nervous going over steep drives or dips. sorry to say may have to cut into the panel to gain acces that way , try to remove the window weather strip outside and slide a thin but rigid piece of wire with a bend on the end to try and release the door lock , aka car thief style , or buy something called a SLIMJIM , this will slide behind the weather strip so won't even have to remove that

If you can't manage to unlock the door with a slim jim or something like that, then you might have to unbolt the seats from the car to make room so you can take the door panel off.

The error is a communication error with the car's Electronic Control Module (ECM). Sounds like the dash/instrument cluster have a short. In later vehicles, they have printed circuit boards. We have companies that rebuild/repair those reasonably. Contact me to arrange for it.

Hi It sounds like your CV joints are getting worn, the reason is that most of your driving is don in a straight line which wears a groove so when you turn from lock to lock the bearings clunk over the groove, it is annoying but not particularly dangerous in the early stages of wear
