I need to change the power steering fluid in my BMW X5

Can you tell me why you need to change the power steering fluid? I've never heard of doing this and the maintenance schedule in the data base that I use doesn't call for changing it.

I have been told I need a new starter. How much

The Bosch starter will probably run about $150, or $250 from the BMW dealer. The cost, however, is not the part, but the installation labor. You did not mention which engine you have in your 5 series, but this is not an easy job on any of them, and on some it is downright ugly.
Whichever car you have, plan on spending at least $400 in labor. May be more.
What makes them think you need a new starter? It is HIGHLY unusual for a BMW starter to fail after 5 years. So unusual that my usual aftermarket parts supplier does not even list the starter for that car yet. Did something happen to the car that would damage it?
Make sure that someone is not diagnosing your problem as a bad starter when all that is wrong is that the anti-theft circuit has tripped, locking out the starter. After they spend $700 of your money replacing a starter and it still does not work, they will start looking elsewhere for the problem, and if that happens they will never tell you that it turned out that you did not need a starter!

Need to locate and replace

I would google and wiki that. not many BMW or Benz mechanics on here, but lots of questions from folks who can afford to buy, but not fix, them. Notably the battery swap gone bad. My mechanical friend has a 2 year old Benz and he had the foresight to hook another battery up in parallel before he pulled and replaced his battery. This kept 12V on the system whilst the battery was out, so his electronics did not take a **** on him which seems to be the typical result of an owner doing this on anything later than a 91 or so. There is a reason why they charge so much at the dealer, even this is not simple on a german car. Expense of having your car towed and fixed from a battery change gone bad could deter you from doing it yourself.

530i /06 wont start not

Hi

You did not mention any other symptoms other than the car is not starting or cranking. However when a car won't crank or start the main suspicion goes to a bad car battery. However when you have confirmed that the battery is good then there are many other factors such as the starter could be at fault and many others that cause this kind of symptoms.

I poured CASTROL EDGE 5W-40

Yes, no problem, it's actually designed to support higher pressures than the gasoline engine oil so it will work even better in colder climates.

Hello Our BMW X5 has folding mirrors but they

chances are you need to repl one or both mirrors, they are very expensive so if you can live with it you should, otherwise buy two from a dealer and remove both front window switches, plug 1 in at a time and see if only 1 will solve this if not try both, typically both are replaced

Hi, how do i register

If you are talking about getting it replaced under warranty, you need to take the car to your dealership and they will have to test it with the factory battery tester. I work at a GM dealership and when we warranty batteries, our tester sometimes needs to charge the batteries for up to 4 hours before it will determine if a battery is good or bad. Just thought you should know that last part in case you were planning on waiting for a quick replacement.

I have a 2006 bmw

Many newer cars computers have to see anywhere from 50-250 good trips without the original problem showing up. This doesn't mean crank, cut off, crank, cut off... It has to actually be driven through a drive cycle. Otherwise, you'll need a scan tool capable of erasing the codes, the cheaper ones may not do the trick.

When bmw 530i battery is

I think that by 2006, BMW 5-series had all switched over to the Mercedes-style controllers on the seats, sunroof, mirrors, windows, etc. You can reprogram that stuff, but it is a LOT easier to keep the system powered up while the battery is out. Attach a 12 volt DC source (like another car) to the jumper cable connections under the hood to keep the car powered while you are changing the battery. Battery shops have 12V batteries on cigarette lighter plugs that they use to keep cars powered while they change batteries.
As for the correct battery, it is not as sensitive as you might think. Look it up on line at NAPA or Interstate. BMWs usually have pretty large battery boxes and that 6 cyl engine does not demand a lot of cold cranking amps, so there will probably be several different batteries that will work if the terminals are in the correct position and you can secure them well. For my older BMWs, I find that the exact replacement is a rare size, so the available batteries tend to have been sitting on the shelf for a long time. I therefore choose a common size that will work so I get a fresh one. Costco and Walmart are my favorite places to buy batteries, but I got my most recent one for the wife's 330 at NAPA. It is shorter so I had to put a 1/4" block of rubber under the battery clamp.

Dear,
Check th below:
1)Check if the torx screw -(it's a screw that allow you to drop out the Engine oil)- is not dripping out any oil.
2) check if the crank shaft sealing is ok.
3) check if the oil pan is cracked or not (especially if you made any accident).
4) check if the oil filter is mounted properly and sealed very well.
5) if the oil is not dipping out of your car but it disappear after short period that means that your engine rings should be replaced or the engine needs an overhaul.
