Question edited for clarity, correct model name. This is a job that you can only try and see what happens. The most obvious is that the ECM will be managing and metering the fuel and engine management for a 2.5 engine and it is actually a 3.0 engine. Simple fault finding will get to the fault. Use a test lamp and voltmeter to check the power line feeding the ignition system but check the alarm first as disconnecting the battery can cause it to cut out the ignition power.

However, I can not find an inertia switch. I have a 1998 Jaguar XK8 convertible. Does being a convertible make a difference in this switch's location?
I removed the passenger kick panel and also checked in the fuse box door on the dash at the passenger side. Thank you.

Same thing has happened on mine!
The solution is to reprogram the window limits. You need to sit in the car with doors shut! Turn the key in ignition in position I or II, roll down the window all the way and keep holding the switch for 5 seconds, then roll the window up and again keep the switch pressed for 5 seconds, repeat same steps for other door.
Reprogramming is also described in the owners manual. I don't know how mine became deprogrammed, should only happen if the battery is disconnected!
