a common problem with the jaguar aj26 v8 engine around that year is low compression due to wear on the nicosil coated bores to get it started you can try removing the fuel pump relay in the boot/trunk fuse box and cranking the engine and keeping the throttle pedal to the floor when it fires get someone to help and put the relay back in has it fires.if not take all the plugs out and put a couple of sqirts of engine oil from a oil can or similar in to each cylinder crank the engine over a little with plugs out refit the plugs and retry

the battery has gone dead you can not open the boot/trunk with the electrical system but you should be able to get to the battery by using the key in the lock on the outside of the the trunk its either in the xj badge or the number plate illumination holder. if you can open the engine compartment there is battery pos power points so you can jumpstart/power up the car

i believe it is on the passenger side kick panel .. behind the trim on lower right side remove the trim and i think it is there.. going from memory

I would suggest replacing all fluids incl: Engine oil/filter, transmission oil/filter, differential oil, coolant flush/replace thermostat, brake fluid, and spark plugs. Some might consider this overkill, but some of these changes are ignored and can greatly shorten the life of the powertrain or brakes.

The first thing is to check the pvc system, make sure hoses are good and not leaking, also is there a check engine light on? if so then you will need to have the codes scanned to see what they are.

Let the tube squirt washer fluid directly on the windscreen, if it does a poor job then you may have to make a flat nozzle. Your local auto house supply should have some small plastic Ts for coupling hoses, find one that fits, cut it long enough to be fastened to the wiper blade with black tape or epoxy, heat the end and flatten with a pin to make a small passage. Use a cheap pair of gloves and use your hand to flatten the softened plastic. The only McGyver trick I know for this!

have a compression test done if there is no compression on either
bank. pull the valve covers and check the chains all appear
tight with tensioners appearing normal.

sorry that maybe I might be the bearer of bad news but it
could be the Nikasil bore coatings have failed. To test this,
remove the plugs and squirt a small amount of oil in each plug
hole. Reinstate the plugs and then see if it starts. If it starts
it confirms the Nikasil failure. The oil down the plug holes is
just a temporary cure!,

Yes, these engines use a special coating in the cylinder bores, and they are big problems. Although , if you check on the net, you will find its possible to get ordinary cylinder liners that can be fitted and bored to size.

You can take your car to an Auto Zone and they can plug in and run a diagnostic scan for free to tell you what is wrong. This will give you a heads up if you take it to a garage for repairs or if you are repairing yourself. If you do not have an Auto Zone nearby, Jiffy Lube has a machine called SAM that will do the same thing but they charge 15 dollars.

This is very common, because your battery is dead your remote isnt going to work. So what you have to do is look by the license plate light bulbs, their is a key hole wear you can insert you key and open the trunk to charge/ or jump start your battery

try using your black key to open manually if this fails a common problem is a sticky lock due to moisture use lubrication in the lock and try again
