I had the same problem twice with my 2002 mountianeer. The first time Ford fixed it for free. It is a known problem with the Mountianeer and Explorer. The second time it happened 2 years later, Ford was going to charge me for the repair. So I took pictures of my car along with several other cars I saw in shopping centers and I wrote a certified letter to my dealership and also to Ford Customer Service in Detroit. I made sure my dealership was aware I was also contacting Detroit after their refusal to fix the defect for free. I also included in the letter all kinds of forum posting from websites where owners had the same problem and the pictures I took. I received a call within a week from my dealership saying they would be happy to fix it for free! I guess the squeaky wheel does get the oil.

Sound like a vacuum leak.

Is the check engine light on ?Have you done any maintenance on it this year ?A slight miss will be amplified when the truck shifts into overdrive around 50mph.

Check for Low Battery will do it with any make or model

Hi Lee, It could be a switch problem or the motor. Each function has a different motor. Regards John
