How to remove airbag module 2008 dodge grand caravan
I'm just adding to the first answer, which helped us a lot. We had to remove the airbag module to get to the clockspring as it was bad. My ABS lights were on. If the warning lights of the car with squiggly lines and EPS lights were on, my car ran fine. When the lights went off, the ABS brake pumping action would go off while driving. The lights would eventually come back on within 5 or 10 minutes of driving. I drove without issue with the lights on for months, I think a year. The problem was when the lights started to go off.
To remove the airbag with the notches in 2, 10 & 6 o'clock, you need to have those holes at 12 o'clock, it makes it a lot easier to get out. Also, you need to remove the cruise control gear from wheel before pulling it off.
We used a Steering Wheel Puller that we got from O'Reilly. My husband said we need L hooks to get our specific steering wheel off. We had a steering wheel puller, but not with L hooks, and he couldn't get it off. He went to a few stores, and they did not have the L puller one. O'Reilly did. I had to buy it for $15, they did not rent that specific puller out.
Also when getting the clockspring itself off, you need to adjust the steering wheel height up and down to get to the 3 screws that hold it. It will make the job a lot easier.
Getting everything back on was easier than getting off. Getting the steering wheel cover over the wheel adjuster was the most challenging part. Everything just snapped and screwed into place.
Honestly, if it had been up to me, I would have paid the stealership to fix this problem. Like the mechanic said, the dangers of dealing with an airbag are best left to the professionals. My husband has been working on cars for years, and he is very meticulous, and he had faith in his ability to fix this, which he did. The savings of $500 may not be worth the risk of injury, so proceed with caution.
