P0016 is the crankshaft position (CKP) to intake camshaft position correlation; P0017 is the exhaust camshaft position correlation.P0016 sets when 'The ECM detects 8 of the last 10 cam sensor pulses occur during the incorrect crankshaft position."P0017 sets when 'The ECM detects 25 out of the last 35 cam revolutions occur with 2 cam sensor pulses outside the CKP window."Basically, you're getting pulses when they shouldn't happen, from both cam sensors, or the CKP is generating incorrect window info. Since the CKP is the common element, it's probably the culprit.The cam position sensors are at the back of the head, one on each side corner. The CKP is under the oil filter housing, above the starter. To replace the CKP, you're supposed to remove the intake manifold and starter. __________________

Also check your fuel pressure regulator, the fuel rail to fuel line connection end the injectors themselves for signs of leaking. The fuel pressure regulator has a vacuum line connected to the top of it. Make sure this is secure. If the fuel pressure regulator has failed it will allow fuel to enter the vacuum line and this will cause the smell of fuel under the hood. Also make sure that the emission control pipe from the fuel vapour canister has not become disconnected from the intake plenum.

The starter motor will be a silver or black, cylinder shaped component to the left or right side at the rear of your motor going into the bell housing of your transmission.

2008 Equinox steering quit. It was the mega 80 fuse, and a $6.00 fix. I have NEVER boosted anyone, so not sure what happened. Will see if it goes again but sure hope it was just a one time incident.

I also have this problem with my 2007 equinox I was told it is a problem with a bad connection sending the wrong message to the computer. I think this should be a recall issue.

It should be near the thermostat in the front or on the back of the intake near the edge of the cyl head.
