Can't get the head lamp

Almost all headlight bulbs have a bayonet mount with a rubber gasket. The bulbs have to be turned about 1/4 turn, usually counterclockwise, to remove them. If you have the new bulb, look closely at the mount on it. It will be helpful in knowing how the bulbs are installed. If the bulb has contacts that you push into the holder, the holder is what you need to get out. It will have the bayonet mount. Sometimes the bayonet is hard to turn if the gasket is stuck to the housing. However, don't use any solvent or lubricant because if it gets into the housing it can damage the mirror coating. Even moisture inside the housing can damage the coating, so be sure you install the new bulb correctly with the gasket in place. Be sure not to touch the new bulb with your bare fingers. The oil from your skin will burn on the bulb surface and shorten its life and light output. Never touch any halogen bulb with your bare fingers. Thanks for using FixYa. Gaker

Where is the Charcoal canister

Hello cf2154.

Here is a diagram showing the location of the canister ahead of the right rear wheel well under the vehicle.
kiltylake_218.gif

The purge valve on most vehicles is under the hood. Purge opens when the vehicle is running under certain driving conditions to burn the stored vapors from the canister. Its usual position is closed.
If this valve fails to seal it will set a code for a leak failure. These valves are usually not the ones that fail the most.

The shut off valve on the other hand is normally open and closes only when the system runs a test to check the integrity of the system.
If this valve sticks closed it makes it hard to fill the fuel tank. Or if it sticks open the test will fail because it leaks.
Because they are more exposed to road debris and damage they are usually the ones that fail.

If you would like further assistance with this problem, please ask me here in a comment.
Thank you for using FixYa.

2001 Volvo S80 cooling fan

This is normal. The fan will run even after the car is shut off until the engine gets below operating temperature. Most vehicles will do the same thing. Although I think thirty minutes is an excessive amount of time. Most could run up to fifteen to twenty minutes. If the car is retaining heat somehow this would cause it to run longer. Happy motoring!!!

The fluid was barely touching

If you are not leaking transmission fluid, and there are no apparent electrical/mechanical malfunctions, then I would say it should be fine to drive. Make sure you top off the transmission fluid. If you haven't changed your transmission filter in a few years, I would recommend you go ahead and get the transmission filter and fluid changed. I just got a 2001

I dont know of the known heater problem...but checking the coolant level is a place to start if the fluid level is to low you will get warm air for a short period of time..this is caused because the the fluid that runs in your heater core is the same that runs your engine cooling...if the level checks out ok...I would suggest a coolant system flush you may have a obstruction in your heater core...You can get this done at most garages...good luck hope i could help.

I have a power steering

The tools for a do it youselfer is the basic problem as you need flare nut wrenchs to turn these often very tight fittings. the lines are hollow so an open end wrench is'nt the best tool to use as they tem to round off the fittings, on the steering rack end you may need to use a crows foot flare nut wrench and some of those that you can get at the disconout parts stores arn'nt small enough to get in there or arn't strong enough not to round off the fittings Take the car to a regular mechaic that has the right tools and get the job done right as you'll save money and time by having it done right.

The battery is dead and

There should be connection points under the hood where you can attach jumper cables to power the car so the locks will work. If not, you can rig something with a 12v plug that plugs in to the lighter socket to power the car.
