Subaru troubleshooting my cars lights and dash
My first suspicion is ground cable to battery is loose, corroded or contacting somewhere it shouldn't. Subarus seem to eat ground cables somehow in my experience. Might also be a computer problem but less likely.
Where is starter relay located
If you had a starter relay or park neutral safety switch problem the engine would not spin . If when you turn the key to the start position an the engine spins but does not start an run , this is a cranks no start , but if you turn the key to the start position an the engine does not spin you have a no crank no start condition . All the parts you replaced an didn't fix the problem , you probably should take it to a qualified repair shop . It sounds like you know nothing of auto repair .
Misfire
go get it timed with a timing light prob walmart or another auto body shop if its misfiring
ENGINE SMEELS HOT AFTER DRIVING ANY DISTANCE.
Hi Dianne, sorry, but I have to ask: after the oil change, are you sure the oil was re-filled? Maybe some got spilled on the exhaust manifold and needs to burn off (any smoke?) Is there coolant visible in the overflow tank? If the coolant is low, perhaps there is a leak in a hose to and from the radiator. "Hot smell" can also be rubber burning, i.e. drive belts, clutch pressure plate. Hard for me to tell w/o being there-hope this helps!

Your check engine light is on because the computer has detected a problem. You need to take it to Autozone or Advanced to get it scanned. It is free and they can let you know what the computer picked up. This way, you know what to look at. If you have any questions, let me know. I am here to help as much as I can.
My 2008 Subaru legacy says Err55 above the milage.
Hello, this message is actually reading Err SS: for one of your speed sensors. It will either come on when you hit a slippery surface or climbing a gravely hill. The speed sensors are mounted on your steering knuckle and react with a multi toothed tone ring mounted inside the sealed bearing. I have replaced a few of those bearings due to minor amounts of rust build up which can sometimes cause interference with the speed sensor signal. I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...
How often do brake rotors need to be replaced?
They will need replacing when they are at the minimum thickness, which is stamped on the rotor in most cases. If they are rusted, they will need replacement anyhow. you may just call a few repair shops and ask for a quote on pads and rotors. Asking a quote for brakes is hard, because they dont have the car to inspect it, and its hard because nobody quotes the same parts, apples to apples. the cheapest is not the best deal, you get what you pay for. Get good quality brakes, your life depends on it. if it was me I would use dealer parts.

Modifications to my 2008 subaru liberty non turbo 5 speed man
Start with a higher flowing airfilter( a replacement panel one in your factory airbox,as a pod filter will **** hot air and off set any flow gains that it gives) a larger diameter exhuast is next and im unsure of what sensors are in your 08 subaru but theres always away of getting around it. They are the best bang for buck modifications you can do and should net you 7-10kw at the wheels, most things after that can get expensive after that on a N/A motor and the airfilter is easy to do yourself , any exhaust place can take care of your exhaust. help this helps.
