Car seems to start ok but then goes erratic and misfires ?
If it seems to idle fine and take of fine then all of a sudden start to spudder, then I would check your EGR vacuum solenoid to see if it's stuck open allowing engine vacuum to open the EGR valve on acceleration when it's only supposed to open during cruise. If you locate the EGR valve, pull the vacuum line off the top and plug it with something like a small bolt or golf "T". Then go drive the car to see if it runs better, If it runs perfect then you will need to replace the vacuum solenoid that the other end of the vacuum line you pulled off the EGR valve goes to. I hope this info helps.
Can I put 2.2l engine from a 92 subaru legacy it in 99 legacy
Yes, the engine long block is the same, any "EJ" engine will bolt up to any "EJ" transmission. I would advise you to look at the EGR setup on each engine, some had a tube that ran down to the drivers side cylinder head and some didn't. That could be a problem, at that point you would have to block of the extra port depending on if you run into one did and one didn't have an EGR tube. I would use the intake off of the engine that is already in the car, along with the cam and crank sensors. You might have to swap the oil pressure sensor and possibly the coolant sensors, the only reason for that is because the different years sometimes used different style connectors on sensors.
Running lights will not turn off.
If you look on top of the steering column, you will see a rocker type switch. If you see orange color on the switch, that means it's activated. If you flip the switch the park/running lights will turn off. This feature is there to allow you to turn on the park/running lights even with the key off.
My Subaru won't start without
Check the starter and the starter connections. freyed\loose connections...
(especially any grounds at the starter or any large common grounds)
Troubleshooting no spark
Were both engines the same year? Some model 2.5's had different crank angle sensor tabs on the timing gears. Usually, if that's the problem, you will have spark on 2 cylinders and none on the other 2 and none will be fireing at the right time.
