Second Generation Frontier (2005-2010) Tips
Right off the bat this is an all around good truck. But there are some things all owners should know when purchasing.
You will use your warranty...below is a list of common problems.
#1 The Whine - You will eventually hear this noise come from your 4 liter V6. It's the timing belt tensioner...try and get it worked on under warranty....and a pretty labor intensive job.
#2 The Rattle - You will hear a distinct rattle from your exhaust especially in the 1 to 3000 rpm range. It's your exhaust heat shields....they tend to corrode fast.
#3 The Thump - You may hear a thump coming from your rear differantial. In some cases it's the drive shaft although I have hear reports of folks having thier rear end replaced under warranty.
#4 The Nutty Fuel Guage - This is fixed under recall with a new fuel level sensor.
With that out of the way here's my advice for making your truck better.
Your brakes - You do have a solid four wheel disc brake system that it standard. But I did not like the quality of the rotors personally. I replaced mine with EBC drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads. I would say my stopping power increased 3 fold...especially under load.
Your Fuel Consumption - Off the shelf you will average 19mpg between city and hwy. I improved mine by making my engine breathe and spark better. A K&N intake and a set of E3 spark plugs gets me an average of 26 to 27 mpg now. An investment that has paid for itself.
Read your manual - Use the proper fluids and change at the right intervals. Also....the engine calls for nothing less than 91 octane fuel. The people who designed the engine ask for it...and thats for a reason. Spend the extra few bucks on a tank of gas and do it right. My first Nissan truck gave me 308,000 miles.
Hope this advice helps - Good luck with your Frontier!!!

I think it is better if you use a OBD II scanner, but if you do not have access to one you can go to your local AutoZone store and they can scan it at for free.
My 2007 Frontier has 70,000 miles and the dealers
They had chain issues I believe. Since the Toyota gas pedal deal,Nissan has stopped playing games on several known issues on Frontiers. Now,will they give you an updated chain. I wouldn't count on it. There are enough law suits out there, you may want to check it out.
My driver's window will not go down and I suspect
You should just get anotherswitch at the wrecking yard for 5.00 bucks but I have taken these switches out and pulled apart the plastic cover and cleaned the contacts inside and replaced the switch only to have it work perfectly. I would not worry about the wiring just yet. 99 out of a hundred times it is the contacts that got corroded and cleaning is an easy fix. Good Luck, The Raz
I have a 2008 Nissan
P2135 and P2138 relate to the rationality of the redundant throttle position sensors or the accelerator pedal position sensors. If the relative voltages of the sensors do not match throughout the range of movement, a code will set. This will generally keep throttle control below 1800 rpm. You want to keep the dealer out of this issue, however unfortunately, the dealer has more advanced diagnostics that can pinpoint which sensor is causing the code set. Some, more progressive, repair shops also have better diagnostics than say the standard OBD II, which will not throughly diagnose. You will need to determine which of these sensors is casuhing the code set in order to effect repair. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!
Front end problems
hard to say what is the symptoms front end shaking or shimmying could be a tire out of balance, bad tire(broken belt, goose egg on the tire). is the tires screaming could be alignment problems. is it pulling to one side or the other could be a hanging break caliper (pulls to side caliper is hanging on) alignment problem (bent or broken tie rod ends) car shakes or shimmy when brakes are applied usually is a bad or warped rotor. the possibility is endless.
Engine smokes when cold.but runs great, all gauges
White smoke is the result of burning coolant and the blue is a sign of burning oil. A common cause of this is a blown head gasket.
This could also be caused by bad valve guide/valve seal that allows oil to seep into the cylinder while the vehicle is off. When started the smoke will come from the xhaust as that oil is burned. Within a minute or so the smoke stops because no oil is seeping intot he cylinder.
Check the plugs for signs of coolant, oil, or burning.

to start u off - try running a hot wire to the light u want to work - if it is working then - you know it is something else
buy a cheap test light 5l dollars or so at wally world - and put the pointed end of the test light on the wire connector end coming out of the truck - - to the trailer - - if the test light [ grounded of course] - blinks - with the blinker on - and the ignition on at the same time - then it is in the trailer lighting / wiring -
be sure - before u do anything else - u check the bulb - better yet - go over the top and trade bulbs in the back to be sure - - if it blinks - -just get a new bulb - if not - continue testing and get back here with any updates and things u try
also - take down the vin # and call the local dealer - - ask about service or recalls for ur vehicle [s]
