A 1996 and up vehicle has an OBD plug to see if there are set codes in the computer. A local repair shop can access those codes and offer a possible solution. DLR. is usually the most expensive solution. They should have informed you of the stored codes in your car.

You will have to remove the ignition barrel and look to replacing lock and barrell. I would stongly suggest using a specialist or main dealer as this is a complicated job.
