Sounds like it could be your starter or your fuel pump. Both have similar traits when they're on their way out.

Replace the temperature sending unit/sensor. It tells the computer to place the engine into cold start mode.

There are still many possibilities. The internal combustion engine is a complex mechanism. The timing could be off. All spark plugs must be firing. They must fire at exactly top dead center. The timing chain/belt must be in good working order, not worn or stretched. The cam shaft must not be worn out so the valves open and close correctly. the valve lifters must be working properly. the cylinder heads must have the same correct compression. A different compression indicates bad valves or head gasket. Piston rings must not be worn out or they will not provide adequate compression. the oil pump must circulate the oil to lubricate everything, and provide fluid for hydraulic lifters. Oil and filters must be clean and the correct type for engine and climate.

You may have a loose hose in the evap system. see the diagram below. The evap purge valve is on top of the engine as indicated. There should be a small diameter hose connected there. That hose runs under the car all the way to the charcoal canister, which is on top of the fuel tank. Check the hose for damage. If you can, check to see if it is connected to the canister and check the canister for damage as well.

There is no fuel shutoff or reset switch on the Avalon, the fuel pump will disable if the air bags are deployed in an accident.

A common problem on these engines are the ignition coil packs, there is one for each cylinder, do you have any diagnostic code information so I can help diagnose the problem? The cat converter overheated due to the misfire.
