Sounds like a sensor in one of the doors. There is a sensor in each door that acts as the switch to tell the computer the door is open or closed.

First does it work manually? If it does than it must be checked electrically within the rear hatch behind the panel. You cold jump the switch but be careful not to short out the body control module.

it has some clips or tabs that have to be pressed to get it to come off, if you think about reinstallation of the cover, it just snaps back into place.

you may want to check the fuse panel in the door jamb on the left side of the car on the dash. the fuse will be marked "cluster" also check the "tail" and "park" fuses.

The struts act as shock absorbers at each wheel.
