is the service engine soon light on, when you turn the key to accessories ONLY?

Battery light on may mean alternator is not charging, thus engine is running off only battery power = weak spark and bad curent to ECM. Fix battery issues and should run better. Brake light separate issue I think.

grease up all joints, ball joints included, replace power-steering fluid, but add some additive for this problem, to the power steering system, what ever you do will help, I hear this same problem with nissans alot !

Call up an auto electrician, he will come to you and connect his pro grade scan tool computer to the diagnostic port. That tells you the problem and from that you do the fix. Remove door panel by prying out at the bottom. Follow around door and remove the panel retainering tabs. Push up on panel to remove from top of door. Now snap the window lock button assembly back in place.

00 maximas don't have swirl control valves that feature wasn't added until 01 unless by some wierd chance your max was made after July in 00 and is cal spec

Gauges have their own fuse. Under dash fuse panel. If it keeps blowing, you have a short to the power wire.
