(front problem only()4H fails., owner knows what part time 4wd does and does not do , goodbut wheels up tests failand did not do that with brakes (left foot ) dragging brakes test to force all 4 tires to spin even in air.if have limited slip, DIFF (mazda L S D) no need to do the brake trick ,L S D is dead or hub locker.but (car option1 cheaper axles)if "open center"diff axle do the brake drag test if fails fails one tire dead front, the automatic axle lock is bad on dead wheel.this device is the front AXLE autolocker, (hard to find now but here it is) hard buy and hard to find photos.there are many kinds of axle lockers.(besides L S D)manual (on end of axle are super reliable)auto locks on end (funky at best) some are plastic junk.locker inside the axles case (both elecric or vacuum )like my jeep had. 1999this car had 3 systems 1990 to 2010which one is there is anyones guess.I would need to look, facts online on Mazda are super lacking. tons of fordsGOOD LUCK to you,!!!!

WELL the service manual answers that. most cars after 1992 are electronic shifted all usa cars 2004 just scan and it tells you DTC for transmission, like P07xx , tranny code errors what stops you from scanning it. why skip scans, its like zonepit here of zillions afraid to scan. no miles on car told 100k 300k 500k? I guess box is FORD 4F27E i will now read the online service manual to you. so can you. there is no TCM (all by itself ) long ago it was moved to the PCM (power train means that) this ford box has 6 solenoids in the box , one is pressure control. lots of speed sensors and more. that reset trick is you not knowing transmissions go to limp home mode on lots of bad DTC errors you refuse to scan , this is box not wanting to say, burn up clutch packs. if certain DTC are set. and more. reasons covered in the ford tranny book like violent down shifts and you get rear ended. and more, A/T boxes have huge ways to fail some are not fun or safe at all but todays boxers are safer due to limphome. so I SAY WHAT stops you from scanning the PCM>????

Question edited for clarity. Mazda dealership are telling you fairy stories! If it starts eventually, the ECM is fine. Check battery voltage, it needs to be 12.4 volts or more. Check compression. Clean Injectors or at least use a cleaning additive. If all that doesn't improve things, call a mobile auto electrician. His pro grade scan tool computer will pinpoint the issue.
