Why is check engine light flashing?
It is flashing because there is a fault or multiple faults with the operation of the engine that the computer has detected.
You need to have the car scanned with the appropriate scan tool to see what fault codes the computer has generated and what irregularities there are with the engine. Then the problems can be properly diagnosed and fixed. It may be a very minor issue which will be a very simple to fix or it may be something more significant.
In any event do not delay in getting the car checked as when the CE warning displays the computer can in some instances(depending on the nature of the fault) take the car into "limp mode to protect the engine or in the worst case the engine will stop and you may not be able to restart it. Take the car to a Honda dealer or independent Honda specialist and have it checked and scanned because the fault or faults are not going to fix themselves.
REPAIRING A 2001 TO 2005 HONDA CIVIC DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT MODULE
Symptoms are: The daytime lights do not work, the DRL light is on. The high beam or low beam only works on one side and replacing the bulb does not fix it.The other symptom that can happen is a buzzing noise from the passenger side dash that does not go away unless the regular headlamps are switched on with the light switch.
What you need to do to repair this issue is remove the daytime module and resolder the solder joints on the relays mounted to the printed circuit board.
The module is located on the left side of the lower dash.Remove the lower cover below the bottom of the steering column.
If you look up about 8 inches and to the left you will see a grey module approx about 4x3 inches and an inch thick with a white connector mounted to an angle bracket with a 10mm bolt. .remove the bolt and lower the module.
Squeeze in the tab to release the electrical connector .
Once the module is out, using 2 screwdrivers carefully pry open the module by prying where the 4 lock tabs are.Once the end cover plate is removed, slide out the pc board that the connector is attached to.
If you take a close look at that board you will see that the solder joints that connect the black relays are all broken.
Resolder those bad solder joints and slide the board back in and the end cover just snaps back in.Re install in order of removal.
