These are communication error codes in the integrated electronics of the car, it has to do with the modules "talking" over a network , I can find no other information,. Remember this is a GM product so the dealer may be needed here.
Engine light on i was told its the air flow sencor ??
Very possible this sensor is defective. You may also have a power/ground problem to the sensor or the signal return wiring is bad or the ECM could be defective setting this code. However, most likely the sensor causing problems
How to you change/check oil in the gearbox & is there a diagram showing the location of the gearbox?
at this point I would suggest that he takes it to an accredited service shop or a shop that has experience with the make of vehicle
if it is a front wheel drive vehicle then the gear box is on the end of the motor (LHS) and is driven by a chain from the bell housing back down and into the gear box
You forgot to say if manual or auto but with all the information that you have supplied , A workshop manual would be a good starting point if your dad wants to tinker with the vehicle

If you replaced the timing belt and the car has been doing this, it is possible you are 1 tooth out with the timing belt.

Is it manual or auto? If its auto check the gearbox/trans is to the correct level when warm. Check the stick in park and idle.

You can access it by removing the sump but this will involve drain pans and maybe a ramp/lift. Don't get underneath on just a jack. Get jackstands. The plastic end will be floating in the pan.
