Over heats when driven and not standing still, why?
There are a few probable causes but my best guess is that you have a stopped up radiator. At an idle, the engine isn't working so id doesn't generate much heat. The harder the engine works, the more heat it generates. The heat has to go somewhere, so the radiator is designed to dissipate the heat by air flowing by the cooling fins which are attached to the tubes which carry the coolant through it. As a radiator gets older and it is not maintained, it is quite common for the tubes in the center of the radiator to become restricted or even clogged. This means that the only part of the radiator which is actually working, is the outer portion which is not that effective because most of the air flow is designed to go towards the center of the radiator. There are places which can flush radiators but they are not very effective when a radiator gets to the stage you are describing. The flushing of a radiator is a preventative maintenance service to eliminate a problem like yours from occurring. Odds are you are going to have to replace your radiator. One other probability while rather unlikely, would be a rather large obstruction keeping the air from flowing through the radiator.
