Have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes checked , follow diagnostic flow chart for said DTC , fix what the problem is , a sensor ,wiring problem , PCM - engine computer etc... then the MIL light will go off on it's own .

the only way to know this is to put a test meter on the alternator which most auto supply stores have you may have to remove it to have it tested thats where to start, you can have new brushes put in it which is cheaper than buying a new or rebuilt unit

Change the fuel filter if you have not all ready done this then check the fuel pressure if you have the equipment reset and monitor.

If it has a hemi engine there is not a cable it has a lazer light that took place of the cable. If you are having trouble you need to clean the glass that the lazer uses to tell the computer to give it more gas. Yea I no but that is what they use now instead of the cable.

it will be in one of the wiring block connectors ,i couldn't find a schematic for you but a good work shop manual should show the location,sorry couldn't be more precise but having a manual will be helpfull in the future as well,

step1 in the service manual states check levels first then make sure the shift linkage is good end to end, then scan the pcm for TCM errors. using a real scan tool OBD2 USA and more, lots more, check fuses? to the service manual pump; pressure tests PRNDL pressures each?
