If the starter is 'spinning fast' and is NOT turning over the engine, it's possible that the pinion gear is not engaging. When you turn the ignition switch, the starter motor is energized, and the electromagnet inside the body engages. This pushes out a rod to which the pinion gear is attached. The gear meets the flywheel, and the starter turns. This spins the engine over, sucking in air (as well as fuel). At the same time, electricity is sent through the spark plug wires to the plugs, igniting the fuel in the combustion chamber. Is this the symptom your car has? The starter is spinning but the engine is not turning over?

One of the main causes of white exhaust smoke and coolant loss is a cracked or warped cylinder head, a cracked engine block, or head gasket failure caused by overheating. A cracked head may allow coolant to leak into one or more cylinders or into the combustion chamber of the engine.
If the check engine light comes on you can go to an Autozone and they will tell you what the check engine code is,

Start by putting approximately 3/4 of the anti-freeze in slowly. Use pre-mix or you will need to make sure you add in a 50/50 ratio. Once to that point let it sit for awhile and then start it, let the motor idle, turn on the heater to HOT, watch the level in the radiator as it will expand when warm. Gradually add the rest of the anti-freeze to top to the bottom of the radiator cap and then replace the cap. Now add the anti-freeze into the Burp/overflow tank to the cold level. Let the car warm completely and drive it around the block. Let the car cool completely and then check for the level in the burp/overflow tank. If low add to the cold line. I would then check for the next few times you drive and if it stays at the cold line when it has sat overnight you should be fine.

Jump starting is one of the unwise things to do with a fully computerised vehicle due to the danger of causing a damaging voltage surge. These days jumper cables are available fitted with an anti-surge device to reduce but not eliminate the chance of such a thing happening.

That your engine is cranking but not starting might be coincidence or the electronics might have been damaged. Only systematic checking will be able to determine what is wrong, I suggest the immobiliser is first on the list.

There's a good chance the float in the sensor is stuck so use something like a screwdriver handle to tap on the tank near the low coolant sensor also check the radiator tanks for another sensor. Have you physically checked the coolant in the radiator (must be done with a cold engine) the recommended coolant is a 50/50 mix of Dex-Cool and clear water. I hope this helps. Take care.

This is a very common problem on GM vehicles. The security system is notoriously known to fail. Basically when you insert your key, the system checks for a certain signal. If the system cannot get the correct signal from the key, it assumes the key is incorrect or you are attempting to hotwire it. The system then goes into SECURITY lockout mode. (prevents vehicle theft) This will either turn off the starter, or the fuel injectors. This has been happening with GM's for a very long time. There are ways to bypass this now. If the cooling fans are running and the radiator is full and clean you may have a blown head gasket or cracked head. Does it blow white smoke out the exhaust if yes it's a head gasket and the heads will have to come off, is the belt turning the water pump?. That's all there is I hope this helps. Take care.

How to Relearn the ETC (electronic Throttle Control)
If the battery is disconnected, the electronic throttle control (ETC) may forget the zero throttle position too. If you find that your CTS runs poorly, you will have to have the re-learn the position.

To do this,
Turn the key to the run position with the engine off for at least three minutes. Then turn the key to the off position.Start the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds.Turn the engine off and restart. The learning process should be complete.
I found this process on the website cadillacfaq.com

Cooling fan(s) probably aren't working. Highway speeds provide the airflow necessary to cool the engine. Slower speeds do not.

Check fuses and relays to see if they have current/power 12 volts. Then check the master switch controller to see if it has power. Take off a door panel to see if power is at the motor.
