The compression is all over the place , Do the following To find the problem . remove all spark plugs , hold the throttle open while testing , compression test all cylinders one at a time and note the compression make sure the battery is fully charged , that is called a dry test, now do a wet test , add a teaspoon of oil to the cylinder you are testing and compression test, note pressure against dry test, if the pressure is unchanged the valves need attention ,if the pressure rises the piston rings are worn or stuck .

Hello. It seems your B.M.W.'s PCM (Powertrain Control Module), inadvertently, 'engaged' 4WD on it's own; without your knowledge. Disconnect your Beemer's battery and wait 10-15 minutes then reconnect it. Start engine and drive your Beemer somewhere. If it stays in 4WD, then, another 'reboot' has to be done. If the motor blows on med-high but not high or low, it's the resistor.

If the light switch is off, the main beam lamps will not latch on.

Mr Goforth. I just read your question. what you have scanned fault codes have nothing to do with your today issue. Since you tried starting the car by jumping the battery tapping the starter motor with negative results, I advice you to check whether you might face : a) not clean to contact battery terminals, b) no good Earthing wiring, c) Ignition Fuse or Relay blown, d) Ignition switch lock not working. Read out the error Codes ( poss. 2750 and/or 2751 ?). It could well be that the throttlebody or maybe cables/plug connection is causing this problem and the 4x4 as the dsc may also be disrupted (error Code 5f1d ?) if the throttlebody function is defective. Try cleaning it & check all its electricals are good. Clear the faults and test drive. If you're still getting transferbox problems, check the actuator/plastic gear and maybe change the transferbox oil AND reset the adaptions. Hope this helps

Your engine is controlled by the PCM. The idle can be adjusted by entering the computer system using INPA with a K+DCan cable, or the BMW diagnostic system. If by chance it's too high, look for a vacuum leak. Generally speaking if you are careful, you can use a can of carb cleaner (carefully) by spraying a small amount at a time near the vacuum hoses and the intake manifold of a vehicle to find the leak. As the carb cleaner is drawn into the engine the car will change idle speed to help you zero in on any leaks. Too low then there must be a fuel/air issue and you should have a code present. In the manual it should show how to insert the code using the radio screen and station numbers , the screen starts to flash when the right numbers are pressed you can enter the code using the station keys 41555 .
