High voltage lighting on premium automotive
The first thing you think to do,to fix your headlight, cause it is not working,is to change the head lamp, right?Well,if you own a premium auto, like lexus ,audi, bmw jag, etc.then this is what you do,when you find a head light bulb not working, look at the voltage printed on the bulb itself, remember not to touch the glass part of the bulb.If it is more than 12 volts, like 46 volts,or 86 volts, something like that then you know it will have a converter. You know the auto is set up on a 12 volt system,so,it has to have a converter to convert the voltage to that high voltage to light the bulb, there will be a converter right behind the head lamp, for each head light, left, and right, before replacing the high dollar bulb swap the one that you know is working,to that side that is not working, this will keep you from buying a high dollar bulb if you do not need to.If the bulb, that you know that is good, works on the side that did not work to begen with, then you know the bulb was bad,but if the bulb still does not work after putting it on the side that did work, then the converter is bad.So be sure to check this before buying a new bulb, even though the converter(from the dealer only) is real expensive, there is no reason to purchase a high dollar bulb, and then have to fork out mega bucks to buy the converter also.
