just replace the headlight bulbs .

I had a small nail in the near new tyre that BMW service said needs replacing. I took it to my local tyre guy and he fixed it although he said he shouldn't. Happy days!For X1 you need to turn engine on and use the scroller on the indicator stalk to get the reset indicator, then hold the BC button on the end of the stalk for 5 secs. I had to do it twice but prob solved.Believe it or not, it's in the owners' manual...

The fuel sender unit could be faulty. It says 1/4 tank even though it is almost empty. Carry a jerry can of gas in the back , and run it down to 1/4 or less to see if the problem repeats itself.
The gas guage and trip computer are only as accurate as the float in the tank.

If you have a multimeter remove and test the fuses for continuity (OHMS) as fuses can look OK but they have blown. If your replacing fuses ONLY replace the with one of the Same colour and Amp rating.

Check the basics first. Is battery fully charged? This is the most common reason for a no crank, no start. What exactly does it do when you turn the key? Nothing at all, no lights, no 'click' as you turn the key. A slow lazy crank?

no year car told at all. using voltmeter what is battery voltage at idle.? not told' 13. to 15vdc is par, if below the alternator is dead or its fuses blown. if ALT is dead, driving the car , far (30min) will make engine stall and be dead,until battery is jump started or charged. that lamp comes of a reason, it means fully load test the battery and test the alternator correctly check all fuses scan the OBd2 port with a scan tool for charge system errors. If the battery is bad,the alternator can in fact refuse to charge it. intermittent battery cell shorts or opens can do that. batteries over 7 years are , love to fail. "it turned on after oil leaked flashy/, " i am not sure what flashy means. DId the PS pump fail and leak and squirt PS fluid to some electronics under the hood, that can be vary bad, if did. be more clear on PS leaks, leaked to where. ? matters

get the service manual. the users guide does not cover relays. or 2 persons find it. one key start (cranking) other one finds the relay that clicks cranked bingo found, and can click even bad. (contractor burned inside) or starter is bad. ever hot wire a starter , keys in pocket? or of all are dead , chances are the relay is good and problem is up stream.(from relay) PRNDL switch bad, in Park and Neutral both? key switch failing (bet not) IMMO lamp glowing wrong and engine is DISABLED.? try both IMMO keys yet, it came new with 2 keys battery is bad and dead battery is only discharged battery lugs, rusty and loose all 4ends good, 2 cables. scan the PCM yet, see if it tells you what died? no country told, and scanning is not the same outside USA. it is based on secret country you. for sure. 2003 all ours 1996 up is OBD2, we invented it here. EPA.gov mandated. other countries lagged till 2003 or 07 or beyond. not posting the country makes answers super hard and most times dead wrong. your X5 has many Range rover parts. 99 up best is check all fuses first then scan it, never miss out on the chance it tells you for example TRS (tran, range switch) errors (PRNDL) be a shame to mis out on that. or not cranking? is it?
