Sounds like the transmission pump gear may have broken. This will make a "ping" or pop" sound and then the transmission loses all hydraulic pressure. It doesn't leak, but without the pressure from the pump, it cannot generate the pressures needed to move the vehicle. Have the transmission checked and serviced if necessary.

Go to a local trans supply house or to the ATSG Web Site
& buy the manual for your trans unit (model)

Any web site-- trans parts place-- has the manuals

Best source & best manual, that the trans shops use

Only about $30.00 well worth it

It will be noisy and if you remove the plug lead there should not be a problem. The piston goes down and sucks in unfiltered air and comes back up and blows it back out . Drive it at a slow to moderate speed and it should be alright.

What shop did you take it to ? Any DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's stored in the SJB - smart junction box ? This is ford's body control module . Do you know anything about automotive electronic's , electronic control modules ? Do you know how to test these systems ? Hooking up a professional scan tool to check input data an out put data for the smart junction box an testing electrical circuits with a DVOM - digital volt ohmmeter is the way to find what's wrong. Checking battery voltage circuit an ground circuits for the SJB after checking for codes , would be where i would start.

Double check the belt to see if it's going around something like a stud or protruding bolt, or the noise you heard maybe was the belt slipping past a pulley or idler with a bad bearing, perhaps it would be a good idea to remove the belt and check all the pulleys and idlers to see if one is locked up, also a good time to charge the battery. I hope this helps. Take care.

There is only one fuel pump , but it has a selector valve. That usually is the problem, especially if hasn't been used for a while.

Well, if it truly is yours, LOL, I would rather spend a few dollars and have it picked and towed. Otherwise, under the steering column rests the ignition switch. Remove it and push the notch where the thin metal is hooked to shaft forward.. that will take care of the first problem . the problem is the Steering. Get a Big Burly person to yank the steering wheel to one side. one side only. It might take a few tries. Then you can go. This the cheapest way. I am without guilt ...

Explore r four track... before you go changing the fuel pump , look for an inertia switch, just another name for a cutoff switch , which may have been engaged by a hard hit or rocking the vehicle. if is shows red.. any where , just press it ,and it will get the fuel pump running again. How many wires to the tank? one tank , right . One is for the gauge and the other is for pump. and one for ground.
