2009 Toyota Tacoma - Page 7 Questions & Answers
Hello I have a Toyota Tacoma pre-runner 2004, and I have a codes P0300: CYLINDER MISFIRE DET...P0301 and p0302, cylinders 1and 2 are misfire can I fix it or do I have to rebuild the eng.?
I would suggest that an engine rebuild is the absolute last resort .
misfires can be from electronic control or injector problems
injector problems can be from ecm control but are more often dirty injector tips or low fuel pressure in the fuel manifold from bad pump or faulty fuel pressure regulator
it can be from a venting problem in the tank system but as that code is not up I would have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to see if it is a regulator or pump problem
it can be plugs (not often) but can be faulty HT leads (touching each other) , moisture in the leads insulation, distributor cap or coils if multiple coils
if it is mechanical suck as valves or valve seat inserts , this can be checked with a compression test but if that is the case would need a head rebuild only
o I would concentrate on fuel pressure first, injectors rebuild second and by then you should have fixed the problem
try using a water disspersent (WD- 40 or the like ) all around the plugs ,leads ,coils to remove any moisture
Just changed my oil,can I reset the maintenance/engine light at home
Yes you can reset at home:
1. To reset MAINT reminder light after engine oil replacement, turn ignition switch to OFF position with odometer showing ODOMETER READING. Turn ignition switch to ON position while holding down trip meter RESET button.
2. Hold trip meter RESET button down for at least 5 seconds until odometer indicates "000000" and MAINT reminder light goes out.
