I purchased an '09 X5
Hi and welcome to FixYa!
It's kinda odd for a replacement part to break so easily. I strongly suggest that you take it in to the dealership and ask if this is a common problem on this car. If few people have the same problem report then it may be considered as a recall.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

When gas tank is 1/4 full and I fill it up it
Normal. There is a resister in the fuel level circuit that slows down fuel level readings. A gauge that responded instantly to a sloshing fuel level every time you went over a bump or around a turn would drive you crazy.

My door handle from inside
Park the vehicle on level ground and have good lighting available. Open door all the way. Start with a pick, pocket knife or very small slot screw driver. Practically all modern vehicles utilize plastic snaps to secure the perimeter of a door panel. However, you will find that two large screws will hold the door panel on around the "door handle/arm rest" as this is where we pull the door closed....so it needs extra securing. If you look on the bottom portion of the handle, you will see either two access holes pointing up at a 35 degree angle...or two "plugs" which act as "appearance covers" hiding the actual holes. Carefully pop these out. Shine your flash light up the hole and identify the type of fastener. ( it i'll be a large Phillips # 3.....or a torx type fitting) remove these. Now, the other places to look for fasteners you remove from "your side of the door" are at the door handle "lever" remove the cover directly behind this lever. You might find this fastener also has a "beauty cover" remove it and the screw. next, top corner up by the outside mirror. you will have a speaker or a cover there that serves as the cover for the screws that mount the outside mirror. remove the cover. if you see no fasteners or covers, it likely pops off. Just be slow and careful. along with the big screws at the door handle/arm rest, there may be another fastener at the top of the handle. With all of these removed and if you see no fasteners around the bottom of the door...wedge your fingers along the bottom and pull straight out. You will be "unsnapping" the plastic fasteners at the bottom and sides of door. Now you will have a door panel that is loose at the bottom and away from the door frame itself. Barring any trim thats not part of the door panel, you should be able to raise the door panel strait up^^^ and free it from the top of the door. Remember, if its not coming off in a reasonable manner, something is still connected. Once the panel is free, sitting on the edge of the seat, put the door panel in your lap and disconnect the electrical connections, door lever rod...etcetera.....
Write me back and let me know how you did

Starts then shuts off as
sounds like it needs an ignition switch then. If it dies as soon as you let the key out of the start position, then this is the case. They wear out quite often.
Thanks for the vote!

Liftgate and iDrive wheel questions
regarding the trunk I am not sures...cars have come a long way with power-operatied doors and I think BMW would have an override system installed....but I don know.
As for the fast and sloppy clicks on the idrive that should firm up. Mine does that when I am scrolling through names and phones numbers.....in a few momments when I let up it tighten back up.

2004 BMW X5 4.4i
sounds like your car has the multi function steering wheel, i know on the 7 and 5 series they come out of sync, im not sure why.
its about £75 to get plugged in at the dealers and they reprogram it, sometimes i have had the odd car with a damaged slip ring, it does all sorts of things, 1 in particular kept on beeping the horn,
i would say if u got 1 urs got upset when battery flat.
