Throttle Body Cleaning on vehicles without electronic throttle control (most 2003 and down)

You can in most cases repair this slow speed stall or unstable idle by cleaning the engine throttle valve and the idle speed control valve using a product called CRC Spray Throttle valve cleaner. Spray the cleaner into the air intake of the engine with the hose removed from the throttle body, the engine will try to stall so hold up the idle speed manually. Once you have used up about 1/2 can of the cleaner stall the engine out while spraying and turn the key off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect and drive the car for a about 25 miles of varied driving modes. If this doesn't cure the problem you may need the fuel injectors professionally cleaned by the dealer service dept.

This model has issues with the security system. You might try pulling fuse 2, but make sure the turn signals still work without that fuse.

There are several possible faults: 1. Pressure sensor is faulty (it might come up on diagnostics as if it was working fine, but it shows the wrong manifold pressure). 2. Either one of the boost pipes/hoses or the intercooler have a hole somewhere. 3. Turbo's actuator is stuck. 4. Vacuum hose is damaged which goes in to the turbo actuator. 5. Control valve for the turbo actuator is not working properly.

Some of the upper end vehicles slip into "limp mode" when there is a problem. This allows you to "limp" back home or to the dealer. Many Audi A4 have been known to slip into this mode and the problem is very difficult to diagnose unless you at least have the OBD-II trouble code (On Board Diagnostic for a hint. Sometimes dealers will not charge you to hook on a code reader, but then others love it for you to have to make an appointment, drop off the car etc. and then charge you $50 to read off the codes and then "clear" them so the Check Engine Light (CEL) goes off... likely only to return a few hours later. Since you are on FixYa, I'm confident that you could would make use of a code reader multiple times. Providing this diagnostic code would be very useful for us to suggest a solution. Code readers actually are not that expensive and are very easy to use... and very convenient... saving that trip to the dealer and all the delay. You can pick up an OBD II or OBD2 scanner tool on Ebay or Amazon. There are a great range of ones with various bells and whistles, but ALL give you the basic codes. I personally prefer the all-in-one code readers rather than the 'bluetooth" ones that you have to access through an Android or iPhone.
