Drove home last night and
Could be the neutral safety switch. Pull out the start relay and interrogate the relay socket with a volt/ohmmeter. One terminal should always show zero ohms to ground. One terminal should show 12vdc when the key is turned to start. One terminal should show a few ohms to ground (this terminal goes to the starter solenoid). The last terminal should show 12vdc from the pcm when the transmission is in park or neutral. This is the signal I suspect you will not get. If I am right, remove the neutral asfety switch and test it with an ohnmeter. Your diagram is at the link below.

2004 Lexus RX 330 Transmission Slipping
If you haven't already, try draining the transmission fluid and replacing it with new. It's recommended to complete this service every 60,000 miles. Also try adding Rislone transmission additive. It worked wonders on my Ford Escape! If you have the fluid changed by someone else, it's advisable to NOT flush the system. The pressure caused by vacuuming it out could create more harm than good.
I changed the rear brakes
Did you check the brake fluid level? A low level might cause the light to come on.
If it's 1997 or newer, and then likely OBD2, take it to a local autozone or similar parts store. Most should scan and clear codes for free, hoping you will then buy parts from them.
Hood latch broken on Lexus RX330
It's not the cable if you can open the hood from inside. The mechanical safety latch is broken. If you can find one in a junkyard, get it, otherwise, it's off to the dealer to order it which will be more expensive than the junkyard version.
