Inside the door is a door switch that is called the tamper switch or door ajar switch, each door has one, it may be defective, it is the Ford designed switch and they have had problems. To confirm the next time the system goes off, unlock and lock the passenger door if it has a lock, my new car doesn't and I know many makes don't have any passenger side door lock cylinder. If doing that shuts of the security system the switch is surely defective or the wiring to it is damaged.

Maybe this is too late but there are no timing BELTS on a '98 XK8. There are timing CHAINS. When there are problems with them there is usually something described as a "rattle' and it is usually more noticeable right when the car is started. If it is the chains you want to replace at a very minimum the secondary tensioners. For more than double the price (typically) you may want to replace the primary tensioners. If you are unsure if the water pump and thermostat housing and thermostat have been replaced you would want to replace those too (adds about $300 to the timing chain/tensioner work). What many descibe as a "whirring noise" (ie when you go faster the noise stays in synch with the speed, when you go slower the noise also stays in synch with the speed) can be low oil in the differential case. The differential is supposed to be sealed for life but many leak...there is usually evidence of oil somewhere on the cover of the differential and it can leak very slowly so as to not be noticed with oil spots on the ground. I detected this on my '97 by getting a small handheld tape recorder and temporarily placing the microphone near the differential and then driving a short way to isolate the location of the noise. You would want to avoid tying up a mic to the driveshaft if you do this! If that is where the noise is you do not want to drive anymore until that differntial case is filled. Hopefully the gears are not destroyed and you can just have the seal replaced and the case refilled if that is the issue.

You don't, unless the window regulator broke,then youhave to get ahold of the glass & then wedge in something when upMay have to take off door panel,has to come off to replaceparts anyway

Posssible power steering pump noisey. have a shop listen to the noise you say you have.

check the lever if any that opens the boot might not have gone down to its normal position. put to normal position and try.

if it is not keeping collant in the tank due to overheating then it is the water pump bot if it just leaks out the you might have a leak in the tank.or maybe head gasket

The Jaguar XK8 has a coolant hose on the rear of the engine that is prone to leaking. The leak is typically on the right side, right above the catalytic converter. There is a quick disconnect fitting that has an o-ring in it. This O-ring fails with age, and the coolant leaks from the connector.

Hi Mike..we just bought a 97 xk8 with the same problem. Simple fix. Remove the carpet on the right side of the trunk, above the cd changer. You'll see the pump. We were able to top off the fluid using a turkey baster and a flex-straw. Make sure you have the correct hydrolic fluid and just **** some into the baster, attach the flex-straw to the end and bend it into the fill hole on top of the pump. Super simple. Worked like a charm. Roof raising and lowering like new.

Gurl, valet mode be makin sho dey go runnin ur carrra round da hood really fast. It bees puttin a lil sumpin sumpin to the the engine so dey don't be going so fast. It do be a good thang cept when u gots a craving foe popeyes chiken !

try having the codes erased hopfully they dont return or try unhooking the batt for 10 min.

you jest this is a new mechanism complete and a right so and so to get too the mechanism ,best get a body shop man on this .

sounds like a bad switch , had a late model lincoln , do the same to me

Anti rattle plates in caliper are damaged/missing if new can't be sourced thin smear of silicon on rear of pad will stop this( allow silicon to dry before reinstalling pads)
